Harvest Photos

Just curious if anybody would be interested in a thread devoted to peoples recent harvests? Doesn't have to be game specific or anything, just whatever your most recent was, accompanied by a story if you wish. I like seeing what people have taken and reading the story's along with the smiles. So if you want, post those pics here and give me/everybody some reading to do!

I like the idea! I don't have time to bow hunt and rifle season doesn't start for another 2 weeks and then all we're shooting this year is for. Way too many and they need to be thinned out.

The last deer I harvested before my son was born and hunting was put on the back burner. I shot him at 45 yards in a clover patch, with my bow. He made a scrape at 15 yards and didnt turn broadside until 45 yards out. Perfect heart shot. Of course he ran straight down hill 60 yards. Tough drag back up the spoil bank. He scored 146 2/8 inches. The third biggest buck taken off my grandpas property so far. He is mounted above my tv, staring me in the face as I type this lol

Very nice!! I have the next two weekends planned for a 3 day weekend away from school. Heading back home to try and fill my Iowa bow tag. My fingers are crossed but my mind has its doubts. The last two years have been very good to me so I'm waiting for a slice of humble pie.

This is last years buck. That was the first buck I've shot in 13 years (work, marriage, kid, life) and the first my son has been witness to. I usually practice QDM but the look on his face when he came out told me I couldn't pass it up, plus I thought it was one my step dad wanted taken out of the herd. After I shot him was son was so happy gave me the biggest hug and thanked me a million times. Well worth it, but now back to QDM.

There's usually one of these that runs every fall that does pretty well until the temps warm up and hunting winds down. I'm starting to get some bucks on the trail camera behind the house but don't know if I'll have time to hunt this year. No big ones, especially for Kansas, but being able to take them out of your own back yard is pretty special.

It was a foggy morning but you can still make out the rack and body of this one, looks like a decent deer anyways, he's facing straight towards my stand in the picture, I'm sure he walked right past it.

He will remember that forever and hopefully you have a new hunting partner!

Hunting bears seems wild to me. I know its a black bear, but I still don't think I would enjoy encountering one. That is huge! I had no idea they got that big in the Eastern U.S.

I figured I would share too because I asked others too. This deer is what I would consider my special deer. My dad, buddy, and I had planned to head down to our farm to hunt on a Thursday night with plans to hunt the rest of the weekend. Well my Dad had to head down early because his father had fallen into poor health. We made it out Friday morning and my dad decided to hunt close to the Vehicle in case he had to leave. I was sitting in a spot where I could see him and not long into the sit, I saw my dad get out of the blind and head out. I knew that bad news was headed my way. His dad and my grandfather had passed away that Friday morning. He trooped out the next morning (I think it was a way for him to get away from it all) and shot a decent little buck. I continued to hunt and Sunday morning I rattled this guy to me. I ended up making a good shot and we found the deer a few hours later. I believe my Grandpa was watching over his farm that weekend, and helped my dad and I out.

I don’t hunt at all but the old saying for bear hunting goes : “sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you” hahaha. We see bears all the time around here but not like that one! I’m sure ones of that size typically stay hidden like a big buck deer

Here is MAGS. The estimated 10-11 year old giant that has been fooling hunters around me for the last decade. Unfortunately someone hit him with their car. Below is a shed from 5-6 years ago. I seen him that year and nearly put my truck in a ditch because I couldnt take my eyes off of him. I couldn't imagine what he looked like just a few days ago.  The IDNR scored him at 214"

Spring turkey hunt from May.  Had 2 gobblers come in around 9:30am after hearing them off in the distance most of the morning, and I picked out the nicer one.

My dad has always said that a Tom/Jake coming in full strut and gobbling is the most excited he has ever been hunting. I can't make myself get up that early with the spring time change. Nice bird!!

Been having a blast calling coyotes!

Coyotes allude me here in Iowa. I have seen them in Iowa when I have a bow in my hand, however when I have the rifle they are nowhere to be found. Nice kills. Sounds like fun!

There's nothing better than having a bird in full strut gobbling and druming with in 20 yards!
