I'm wondering what line y'all use for spinnerbaits.

 

Until recently, I've used braided line with a leader. However, I'm finding myself gravitating back toward monofilament for all moving baits, not just those with treble hooks.

 

Braid remains for jig, worm, and frog fishing.

 

Thoughts?

I've used braid, monofilament and fluorocarbon at times, but I prefer the latter two for moving baits, the difference being how deep I'm trying to get it. Use 12lb test works in clear water, 17lb in really weedy areas or 15 for your do everything spinnerbait line.

I dropped mono and hybrid for black 20 lb braid for everything. It doesn't break, slip knots, and I get more hookups with it because it doesn't stretch.  Even in thick weeds, I can count on braid to be able to horse a fish out of them into clear water and to the boat.

 

Historically, I've lost many fish due to slipped improved clinch knots (on YoZuri) , poor hook set and line breakage than braid which has never slipped a knot or broken. 

 

 

 

 

12lb. mono. for spinnerbaits, crankbaits and lipless crankbaits ... a little stretch is ok ... using 1/4 and 3/8 oz. lures ...

In seasons past I've used various brands of 17 or 20 lb mono.  This year I'm trying 14 Yo-zuri co-poly on my primary spinner bait rig and I can't complain about the line.

30 lb power pro to 15 lb big Game leader.  It ain't perfect, but as close as I've found.

I like braid for cover and flouro if I'm fishing them in open water. But it really doesn't matter.

17 lb Sunline Armillo (.013D) is smaller dia then 12 lb Big game, cast great with exceptional knot strength is all I use for top water, crankbaits, spinner/chatter baits etc.

25 lb (.016D) Armillo for swimbaits and hope they offer 7-9 Lb Armillo soon for Finesse.

I use 12 pound Sufix Siege for most of my 1/2 oz spinnerbaits.

30 lb.  Straight Braid

I like braid for the simple reason that I love that strike feel.  Even when the fish just bump it without biting, I feel it and know something isn't quite right, so I change blade color, type, or skirt color.

1/2 oz and less spinners - on my President with 20# braid

Heavier spinners - on my Fuego with 50# braid

 

I don't use leaders.

I have forever used 17lb XL Mono for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits, but just respooled the chatterbait reel with 14lb Sufix Advance.  Now all I need is to get a bite on it so I can see how it works.

15-20 lb Big Game for most lakes around here. Occasionally will throw 50 lb braid around heavy pads and/or grass. 

40lb Power Pro.

Different lines could be

8# nanofil for 1/8-3/8 

16# Sniper FC for 1/4-3/4

10-20-30-60 test braid for any of them depends on what reels I have on hand.

Rods range moderate to xtra fast.

14 to 17 lb Big Game.

14 lb sufix advance mono

14# fluoro. I was using 12# mono but was getting really bad hooksets on long casts with it.
