Just popped over to the bassmaster site to see The West Virginia team is in first after day one!!

They brought 26lbs 6 oz to the scales.

On a side note my old tournament directors son is in 13th place fishing for the Kent State team!!

The weights from this tournament are almost comical they’re so great. 85 teams with 20lbs+ And 118 with 18+.

Not sure which Kent State member but Nolan and Tanner of Kent State met at the 2016 High School National Championship and have been very close since. The whole group of the "kickback crew" is made up of some solid guys.

Yup ~ Nolan Minor and Casey Lanier are making this a habit.

Nolan's 6 plus PB Brown Bass anchored an impressive 26 lb sack that put them on top of the day 1 leaderboard.

Makes me jealous that when I was in school they didn’t have a team. I might have had more of a drive to do better then at 18 ha. This is awesome to see what BASS has created for college students.

Good luck on Day 2 WVU.

As much as I like seeing our BR guys doing well, this event scares me.  The smallies are in full spawn mode up there right now and I know for a fact the majority of those fish got pulled off beds.  Normally I'm not too worried about that stuff, especially on the River and Ontario but sheesh...200 boats pulling those bass off beds in my neck of the woods is a little cringe-worthy.

2/3s of the river is off limits due to high water. More details later but they aren't fishing the best waters.

With as many hefty sacks showning up that's both interesting and a little scarey.

Must not have been tournaments on those waters 4-5 years ago during the spawn, thats why the weights are so big now.

I haven’t caught any posts from Nolan lately. Is it on another thread? I have enjoyed his updates in the past. .

Wow! Tight race.

Hope WVU can overtake Awbunn after jumping Sam Houston Institute of Technology.

All 12 teams are in the running for the win.

Looks like a great tournament. Can't wait to find out where everyone finishes.

Geaux Nolan. Beat the War Eagles/Plainsmen/Tigers/Whatevers.

Sam Houston ended up taking it. I was working the weigh in.  One of the top teams had a 22 lb bag in their first 7 casts.  I'm the faculty advisor for the Clarkson team (the tournament hosts) and they were 7th every day so we are very proud of them.  Even with only 12 teams on the water, the beds were pretty much depleted today and they had to rely on more traditional fishing.

Several of the anglers complained that their hands were torn and bleeding from landing so many fish.  One team said they caught about 40 4 pounders on the final day but a 16 lb bag didn't cut it this week.

The overall weigh in record was smashed by 1000 lbs with 50 fewer boats.

WVU crushed it again finishing 5th and closed the gap enough that I'm not sure if they ended on top for team of the year, it may be a difference of 2 oz and in 2nd but again, I'm not sure of my calculations.  Hopefully Nolan will chime in later and discuss about what he saw. From my understanding is if a less than 4# smallie was on the bed it's still there and the spawn will be successful with an incredible food source to continue the big bags that were caught in this tournament. I do know that his last day of practice saw his best 15 totalling over 60 lbs! Teammate Casey had his own fish to deal with on top of Nolan total. Crazy!

I can't say enough about the reactions of the teams as they came across the stage.  They just shook their heads in wonder at this fishery, mixed with a little frustration for a lot of them that the biggest bags of their lives couldn't even get them in the top 50.
