Any Tips to Catch Bass During a Heavy Mayfly Hatch?

Featured Replies

Here in S.E. Mich, we're in the middle of one of the heaviest mayfly hatches that I’ve seen in a long time. It happens every year obviously but this year there is more than I’ve ever seen. The bass bite is almost nonexistent the past two days. Any tips on things to try to trigger a bite?

I've had a good bite during a heavy mayfly hatch with the long rod and a Wooly Bugger. A heavy mayfly hatch is one of the hardest things to battle I've found because they're such easy food and the fish get so focused on them.

From what the news was showing heavy doesn't discribe the epic mayfly hatch this year.

This topic was discussed recently by one of the pros  during a tournament . I dont recall who . He was trying to imitate bluegill with his approach because the bluegill were feeding heavily on mayflies .

I guess I didn't realize what you meant when you said "heavy".

Carpets of mayflies inches thick happened at Lake of the Woods in the 70's while we were visiting the inlaws. It's unbelievable to you experience it, that and army worms they have up there.

One year here ,  they used snow plows to remove mayflies off the bridge over the Mississippi .
