Does anyone know how to remove those hard water stains from outboard? I have not been wiping it down after using it as I should have been.

They’re calcium so I would assume clr would work pretty good ...always try a small area first to make sure it doesn’t damage it 

Start with dilute vinegar, then work up to dilute CLR or similar.  No abrasives.  Once you have the stains off then put on Lucas Slick Mist.  Then when you come back from fishing use only the Slick Mist which is very easy, quick, and will keep the engine looking like new.  Even if it's black.  You will be amazed at how good the engine looks and how easy it is to keep it that way.

I took this to the next level.

I've been using a 50/50 mix of white vinegar & the Lucas Slick Mist this summer.

Keeps my black hull & motor just how I like it - clean, shiny and water spot free.

Cheaper than the Boat Bling Hot Sauce and works the same.

Have heard bass boat saver and Slick mist are good....I'm wondering what to use to wax a painted tin boat....is it the same as fiberglass....I've always used Meguires...but have heard the Slick mist makes a good product?

Vinegar is a good safe suggestion. I know some of the high acid cleaners work very well, like ones meant to remove urine salts from plugged urinals, but do not get that stuff on your hands. I like an eagle one product called wipe and shine detailer, or more recently turtle wax ice.

The A-Jay method works for a painted aluminum boat which is what he and I have.

I have only cleaned my boat once with the dilute CLR.  After that first cleaning all I do is reapply the Lucas, which takes about 10 minutes max on my 16.5 foot boat.  What spots occur over the Lucas coat come right off with more Lucas.  Piece of cake.

 

With Lucas there is no waiting for a wax to form a dry dull coating that has to be buffed.  You just spray it on and wipe it off.  No waiting, no dry dull coating.

My painted G3 aluminum hull gets a Bass Boat Saver wipe down each outing (nasty Potomac river), but any auto detailer will do the same thing.  When the BBS jug is empty though I am going to go to A-Jay's solution, inexpensive and it sounds like it works (leave it to a Coast Guard vet to know about clean hulls?).  My Yammie 2-stroke with 350 hours is now 18 years old and I did not keep up with the calcium build up on the lower unit so I called Yamaha and got the paint color code, ordered a can of spray paint from Color Rite and repainted the lower unit and clear coated.  Now I am going to do a better job of keeping it spiffy.

Just be aware, any vinegar solution is acidic and will remove the wax from whatever you use it on.  Following up with a spray detailer is a good idea.  Personally, I know the owners of bass boat saver and it is a great product.  It has more cleaning ability than the other spray on detainers and I use it often.  I also make sure my motor and boat have a good coating of sealer/wax about every 3 months.  I want a good base coat to work from.  I also use a lot of 303 on my seats and anything other than the gel.  It can be used on gel as well but I prefer the wax products.  I also use the 303 on my trailer and tires.  

I use The Works (green bottle) dilute 50/50 with water. Takes that nasty pond scum and water spots right off. Then I hit it up with Meguires waterless wash and wax, and Meguires Quick detailers to keep it looking clean.
