This is her first hurricane. Hopefully she will remain on campus where it is safe.

Sam, she should be fine at UCF.  It’s a big campus with all concrete construction.  Probably have to suffer though without power for some time but we all will be. 

Well now it looks like it may go up the east coast of Florida in a similar track to Matthew. It is predicted to be a slow mover which would potentially devastate the coastline again. The hopeful scenario would be that it misses land completely ( including the Carolinas) . My cousin in coastal NC just got her roof fixed from last years direct hit there, so hopefully she won’t have this one to deal with.

For me, it’s looking like a very slow work week. ( Very few people are wanting to buy what Im selling until the hurricane is past?) But with loss of life and property for Floridians looming I can’t focus too much on my  next check. The experts are saying that maybe if it slows down enough it will have a window to escape open up and thus miss FL. ?.( and hopefully miss the Carolinas as well)

@Fishing_FF I like your Turtle analogy. That pretty much sums up our situation, doesn’t it?

Looks like the focus is shifting from Florida to possibly Georgia and Carolinas. It continues to be a waiting game.

They all say this thing is going to make a turn to the north off the Florida east coast.  If it continues straight it has a direct bead on my home, with 180 MPH winds.  Please make a turn soon.

Ok Boys Mrs Mike and I are out of here before they close the bridges. 

We're under a mandatory evacuation order. 

I just hope this thing is still upright when we get back.

Yes, Dorian is due east of my family that lives in South Florida. They chose to stay, so like you, they are hoping for the turn. He's barely moving (west @ 1PMH) which hopefully means the turn will be soon.

Thanks bud.  My parents were EXTRAORDINARILY lucky during Matthew -- the only damage they had was a few hardwood floorboards in the kitchen after the freezer melted and leaked.  A few hundred yards in any other direction was a very different result.  Hope that luck continues for them.

According to Dave at WXrisk.com, the storm will turn north on Tuesday and head up the coast.

I'll feel better when she starts to move north.  If it doesn't turn and goes straight it's through my hood!

I'm starting to get a little nervous my daughter lives in Vero Beach they got everything boarded up and strapped down yesterday.

This is going to be their first hurricane since they moved there.

She said if they get mandatory evacuated they're going to head to the West Coast to Venice where my brother lives hope she doesn't wait too late.

I am  talking to her right now trying to get them to to head west with the dog and the 4 cats. She said they are going to make the decision in the morning, nothing like waiting for the last minute.

I recently moved away from the Hilton Head SC / Savannah GA area to the Greenville SC area but my hurricane troubles are not over. My father was hospitalized last week down in Bluffton SC and with the mandatory evacuation they moved him today. Meanwhile, I made the 4 hour drive to Bluffton to bring my stepmother up here since she does not drive much anymore.

 

The drive back took over 6 hours instead of the usual 4 hours and that made for a very, very long day. And once the hurricane passes in a few days I'll get to do it all over again. With my dad being ill I've been making this trip once or twice a week. I've got to say all of this driving is tiring. There's no way I could drive for a living.

 

 

Good luck! You guys get 4 days notice to take action. We are lucky to get 10 min for a tornado.

Just to give you all an idea of how far the traffic mess will stretch - when Matthew went up the east coast a couple of years ago I was working on a project in VA on NB I-95 in southern VA.  We were putting out lane closures at night and would get 2 - 3 mile backups all night on a stretch of 95 where traffic is extremely light at night (this is rural VA).  Most of the plates were from Florida.  

Looks like it just started to turn north.

If you’ve seen any videos of the Bahamas you know what this thing is capable of.  The storm surge was unbelievable.  One video by an official showed the water, not just waves but solid water, half way up his window and he was on the second floor of his house, 15 feet up!
