I have OQ testing for work I have to get done tonight. 6poundbass on the other hand....

  • The last 2 years here in the Minneapolis area have been ice out the first week of May... yes May not a typo... So I will predict our ice-off date at May 3, 2020.  Which is 172 days.  Argh..

  • We got 3 inches of snow Monday night, but I'm headed out Saturday we're supposed to be in the mid 50's.   Saw some guys getting gas this morning and they are pre-fishing for a 100+ boat tour

Ha ha that’s awesome. These ones are nice. A lake just down the road has some that aren’t so nice.

We had several that would CHASE every jet ski, kayaker, paddle boarder it was bad.  Unfortunately they (DNR) had to put it down.

Took a detour home today and HOT DIGGITY we’ve got open water!ABE69C76-6A50-4654-BA96-3F306B4035C1.jpeg.4a497946212002e2ebe766e8f46079a9.jpeg

First week of March is my usual time to do some scouting.  Starting Sunday, the weather projection all week has us getting some consistent sun, with temps above freezing almost continuously day and night.

Good Luck - and it's interesting how different it can be a little further north ~

Still dead of winter type deal here

We've gotten roughly 2.5' since yesterday afternoon and being a stones throw from Lake Simcoe. I get a ton of lake effect.

Snowing in East TN

Middle Tennessee might get 1/4 of an inch tonight and temperatures are not expected to climb above freezing until 9:00AM tomorrow.   It could get ugly.

Got 4-5ft of snow next to my driveway and lakes with real roads on them  you can drive a semi on because the ice is so thick, I’ll trade you open water and a 1/4 inch of snow any day

All the snow is gone here, been 45-50 degrees! The next few days show mis 40s and low 50 and sunny... tomorrow I’m re spooling all my rods! You know the time is almost here when you start re spooling

This weekend is going to be gorgeous - come-on ice-melt.

Saturday
Sunny, with a high near 55. South wind 10 to 15 mph.
Saturday Night
Mostly clear, with a low around 43. South wind around 10 mph.
Sunday
Increasing clouds, with a high near 59. South southwest wind around 10 mph becoming west northwest in the afternoon.

I was in on page 2. We have had warm weather with temps above 50 for a week or so now.  Our ice is unsafe at this point so I am hoping it's gone by sunday so I can get out for a few hours!  The lakes and stuff around here will be frozen for a little longer yet but the river where I like the to start the year at may just be open.  Here's hoping!

Continually getting these local forecasts are a stark reminder that I still have a ways to go . . . .

I just checked my 2020 calendar and I'm shooting for March 9.

Missed the date by a few days. My local club waters are 90% ice free and I actually did some shore fishing there today. No bass, but did land a couple of trout, so I'm a happy camper or should I say happy angler.

Well the weather on many days is around the same temperature that it thawed out last year. Add in the fact that the ice never got very thick this year to begin with, I think it will be thawed fairly soon.

I drove by the first spot to thaw, and the spot by the culvert under the causeway is almost melted. It shouldn't be too long after that before that portion of the lake, the shallow side is thawed.

Did a little scouting this week during our warm spell to a few little lakes that usually warm quickly -- still mostly covered except right on the bank.

Walked the riverbank for an hour and a half where it wasn't too muddy and made some casts with a hair jig, a little keitech swing impact, and a SK rodent on a shakyhead.  Lost the hair jig, had what looked like a little walleye follow the keitech up shallow, but no strikes.  Still pretty early for bass here.

Locked and loaded boys !!  Found some open water today! Heading out Sunday with 55 and sunny weather.
