For smallies, I’d go with pretty much the exact same thing as you, same colour and everything, but if I had to choose one bait for both species combined, it’d be a Strike King double willow spinnerbai

Green Pumpkin TRD on a 1/16oz Red head for both.

  • Black 5” Senko for both

ZMan TRD on a 1/15 oz Zman head.  Color depends on the lake, first choice would be California Craw.

Also, do all the guys who chose various plastic worms know that they only get 1?  After 3 fish, they would be done, unless you let them use Mend-it...

I figured it would be an unlimited supply .

One lure for both species: 5 inch Strike King Caffeine Shad on an Owner Twistlock Light 3/32 weighted hook.

Unbelievable action with this set up.  This specific weighted hook keeps the Shad horizontal while moving forward.  Unlike other plastics of this style, the Shad has a bubble in the tail.  Once cast out, the Shad slowly swims forward, then slows and with a kick of the bubble tail, changes directions and descends further while swimming/dying in a different direction.  If there are smallmouth or largemouth present it gets engulfed.

This is the only lure I need whether throwing in open water, along weed edges, skipped under docks, or twitched like a jerkbait.  Also works great swimming with the current along river banks and is mostly resistant to branches/rocks/weeds.

Most any color works, but if I had to pick one color, white would be it for both species.

What size do you use 5/0? That’s a good sized plastic

4/0 fits the bill perfectly on the 5 inch Shad..

Surprised it only took until January 18th for this thread to show up.

For me, I'll take a casting style jig. So many possible ways to fish it. Pitching/flipping, swim it, drag it. I can cover the whole water column.

I don’t get to fish for smallies that often so for largemouth I’m going to say a jig and craw.

It would a jig in PB&J color with a matching Zoom Twin Tail Grub or an Ultra Vibe Speed Craw for a trailer.

BPS Stick-O 5 3/8" watermelon candy. So many ways to rig it, hard to go wrong.

Can't say.  Don't wanna say.  Too many great lures out there and too many places to fish them to narrow it down.  Glad I don't have to.
