I’m trying to narrow this down.

Shimano Expride Glass/Graphite

iRod Genesis Stone Cold Graphite

Zolo Toadface Graphite

I don't know about you guys but I don't like a glass rod around heavy grass. I vote a nice MH graphite rod.

I don't like them with a bait with a large jighook either, grass or no grass.

My current chatter bait rod is an older Diawa LT ( Light & Tough).  The whitish/silvery one.   It is labeled a worming/jiggin rod.  IMO it has way too much tip to be a decent worm rod, but I think it has just the right amount of tip to throw chatter baits as far as I want to AND it has enough back bone to set the hook at distances if I have to.  I'll probably put a Calcutta 250 TEGT reel on this rod and fill it with 17 or 20 mono.

That's what I like in a rod for mine too. A tip that loads well to throw them a long ways and feel the blade wobbling (even watch the blade wobbling if I want to), but good backbone to drive a big hook and move big fish away from cover.

My David Fritts Crankbait rod is the best one I have.

 

It outperforms my G. Loomis crankbait rod.

On further review, I didn't realize that this was a poll.  My vote goes to "none of the above", for reasons described a few posts earlier.  I think that if you're going for a glass rod to throw chatter baits you're sacrificing quite a bit of sensitivity and gaining more weight than necessary.

None of the above.  If you think you need a specific rod for throwing chatter baits you are over thinking things.

the ole st croix premier 7'0 mhf has done work for me over the years. keeps em buttoned up and rips through the grass with ease...

I overthink a lot of things concerning fishing, fishing rods, fishing reels, artificial fishing lures, uses for said artificial lures, actual fishing situations, potential fishing situations, etc.  I'm not the only one.  I think that is why god made beer in general and IPA's in particular, so that I could overthink various fishing topics, when work or weather or other variables deny me the opportunity to actually go fishing.

If you accept the premise that some rods are better at throwing chatter baits than other rods, then it follows that there is such a thing as a "best" rod for throwing chatter baits.  I'm totally aware that my idea of "best" is potentially and probably different from other folks idea of  "best", and that is why we have forums like this, so that we can compare mental notes, as it were.   

 

Bottom line is , yeah, I do have a dedicated chatter bait rod.  I ran into it at a pawn shop.  I can't drive by a pawn show and not stop in occasionally to see what kind of fishing gear they have available.   I have a dedicated chatter bait rod so that I don't have to take the time while I'm fishing to snip the bait off my dedicated spinner bait rod & retie.   Or my square bill rod, or buzz bait rod, or any of several other rigs that I feel are suitable for a reaction bait.  Fishing gear can be purchased.   Fishing time - not so much.   I have dedicated rigs for the various techniques I choose to employ to maximize my time on the water and not waste time when I don't have to.   And there I go, overthinking stuff again, gotta go back to the cooler, day off & my beer just evaporated. ..

Not on your list, but the Hammer 7'3 Heavy is what I use for chatterbaits, and I love it.

I use the 6' 9" H/F Hammer, awesome rod for them.

I'm with most of these guys, no glass rods for me throwing chatterbaits.  I like a med hvy rod with a little bit of a softer tip. My old man throws a chatterbait 90 percent of the time and he fishes em on a 7'3 heavy

For me, if on mono/flouro, graphite and a fast-ish tip.

 

Just one story, but fishing chatterbaits with a friend last year and he kept missing fish on flouro on a MH. I suggested he throw it on a H rod instead, and he immediately started hooking up. 

 

But I really prefer a mod that's almost floppy and fish it with braid/leader. I've almost totally moved away from braid/leader but I feel disconnected from the chatterbait on mono/flouro. Crankin' style rod gives me enough give to not lose fish, braid gives me enough oomph to not miss hooksets. For whatever reason I find I'm really accurate on roll casts with the give in the rod. But, it is pretty sensitive to weight - 3/8 chatterbait is perfect, 1/2 is a little overloaded.

 

Net net it is a big single hook. Floppy rod and stretchy line doesn't seem like a fit.

 

Anyway, I'd change one of them (the rod action or the line).

interesting--i have a never used 3 year old 7'0 h/f veritas that has been sitting in my garage for 3 years(christmas gift). Never have any idea what to use it for but maybe chatterbaits warrant it getting a reel placed on it for the first time?

Don't know about the Veritas. The Hammer doesn't fish like a typical H/F rod. Most rods with those ratings are way too stiff and have no tip at all.

OP.  Maybe you should read the reviews of the Dobyns 736 CB Glass.  Then make a decision.

My favorite rod for a chatterbait is a Daiwa Tatula Glass 7'2" MH/R (basically mod. fast).

I just spend all my money on baits that the fish actually see.  They don't really see the rods.

As a simple guy on a retired budget I use a 7'MH fast tip Carbonlite for chatterbaits and a bunch of other stuff, except cranks and a medium for those.  Seems to work very well for me.  I only have two technique specific rods and one is a Rick Clunn top water and a KVD Spinner bait rod and I bought those years ago before Carbonlites hit the market.

If nothing else, jigs or frogs. I usually wouldn't use a heavy for a chatterbait, and if I did it would be a H/MF (although the Veritas might be a little more moderate than some if I recall right)
