Overactive Livewell

Featured Replies

Last tournament getting ready for weigh-in, I opened the
livewell lid to retrieve my fish when my largest fish ( a five
and a half pounder ) jumped out and hit the deck flopping.
Immediately I too hit the deck, chased it around and a grabbed
it just before it went back in the lake.(fastest I've moved in
years!) ... and this is not the first time this has happened!
Is there any solutions on the market to prevent this from
happening? ... possibly a secondary split lid?

@Old Pro, just wanted to say THAT’S a very nice problem to have, the epitome of a very functional livewell! Definitely beats the alternative that some of us have experienced at least once. I believe some of the newer boats have a sliding plexiglass lid that might be a solution. Id personally be happy with it, just being really careful when opening it at all times. Not to mention to be sure the person holding the weigh-in bag has it on the cockpit floor to prevent any “long jumpers” from affecting a successful escape ?.

Ever since I started using my non piercing cull tags with floats it has made my life way easier loading fish.

Lost a fish that went from livewell to lake without touching the deck.  Ever since that day there is always a bag or other item on each side when getting ready for weigh in.

I watched a guy lose a 5lb class fish and it did the same thing- out the livewell and directly into the lake

I'll never forget the look of horror on that guys face

Yes in Alabama. The water is like 90 degrees when we go there, their metabolism is cranking. There’s no size limit , it was about a 3 pounder that ate a 3/4 lber. Well tried to eat, the tail was still sticking out of its mouth. Fish were in the livewell for supper, not to weigh in

If you were in a tournament, I wonder if that would have been counted as one or two fish....
