Backing to mainline knot?

Featured Replies

I've been thinking of upping the quality of my fluoro and mono setups, but using cheap Berkley Big Game as backing to save a penny.  How do I tie mono to mono or fluoro?

While Big Game is reasonably priced, it's Very decent mono.

I use it for backing & leaders.

As for a mono to mono knot - I'm a Blood Knot user & abuser.

And you can take that to the bank !

(I don't know why I said that . . .)

Yessir.  I like to use it for topwater applications.  I'm planning on giving a spool of Sunline FC Sniper or Assassin a go on crankbait setups, specifically my 8'+ cranks because I'm looking to drop down to 10# on deeper baits and I'm hoping the premium fluoro will help.

Blood knot

Tom

A uni to uni , three turns on each side will do it.

Uni to uni..I do 5 loops on each..

No need on the uni to only use three, no advantage and some risk.  I think the blood knot is a little smaller in diameter than the double uni.  It is what is used in making fly leaders.

Uni-uni or blood knot; whichever is easier for you to tie. In reality, it doesn't matter which as you should never have a bass (or any other accidental catch) ever take you close to your backing. The knot should never come into play, IMO.

“Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face” -Mike Tyson. The knot only comes into play when Murphy’s law kicks in, and we all know it will. Like when you’re just on a short bank session after work, low on mainline, and somehow mister big eats your jig. He would never eat it if you were well prepared with a full spool

I don't like the Uni to Uni for leaders but for this application I think it'[s your best bet. Ideally you're never getting down to that knot anyways.

In that case you would deserve it :wink7: Hope you tied a good knot!

The only time I recall having something happen like this was when I was a youngster and fishing off the bank below a dam. I bought some Heavy buck tail jigs and a striper grabbed one, took all my

line off a big full reel in strong current, and broke the knot at the arbor. It was then I learned that striper are fast
