Help me pick a jig rod please!

Featured Replies

So I’m in the Midwest and I’m looking for a decent jig rod for about $100. I want it to be a medium heavy and I’ve been looking at the St. Croix Bass X but the 7’2” comes in a moderate action. Not sure if that will be good enough for jigs or if there are other options I should explore.

Welcome to BR.

Your post belongs in another forum for fishing rods questions and will get moved.

The $100 MH jig & worm rod question is popular and gets a lot of inquiries, you should get several replies. Dobyns rods are popular and look for sales.

If you can find a Daiwa Tatula in the 7'1" heavy.  Fantastic jig rod.  I paid $99 for mine.

Or go up in price a bit and get a Mojo Bass.

I second the Tatula MH rod.

Mojo Bass or Dobyns Fury

I use the tatula 7’2 heavy it’s been a great for jigs it’s a little more than 100. But take a look at the tatula xt Line should be right around 100.

I'm a huge falcon fan and feel they always fish way above there sticker price... In the Bucoo SR series they have a 7ft heavy fast and a 7ft 4in heavy fast both rated for 3/8th to 1oz for 99.99 and 109.99 respectively..I've always felt falcon rate there rods 1 power off so id imagine these would fish like an average medium heavy... to me the actions feel close Fast feels fast mod fast feels mod fast etc...the thing I like most about Falcon is there rods are light they feel comfortable in hand and I've never had one that felt unbalanced or tip heavy

Let me add that for the past several years I've been jig fishing mostly 3/8ths jigs on a mojo bass 7ft1in medhvy fast and I love it... A few people above me have recommended the mojo line and I can say with confidence they are a great rod for not a lot more money if you can swing it

I've got a couple Dobyns Mag Hvy Fast Action rods I use for punching and jigs. Enough muscle to pull em out of the slop.

Do not buy a Bass X, this is the worst rod I've had in my hands. I've never owned one but I have handled in hand at store. I'd go with Falcon BuCoo or Daiwa at your price point.

You can find a Falcon 7”3  Jig Low Rider on ebay for about $100

Hands down the most sensitive and balanced rod in the $100 price range.

I just bought an All Star Nano II, 7'3 Heavy. With the 25% All Rods sale that Academy sent out it came to $75. It passes the feel test, haven't had it out yet.
