It came to my mind as I was watching a video and I thought “Is a wacky rig senko finesse?” You generally throw it on spinning tackle and if this is finesse would a 7’ medium light fast action rod good for this.

I consider it finesse fishing but you can power fish a wacky rig.  It's a good search bait and you can cover a lot of water with it.  Rod selection seems pretty on point.  I use a  Power Diesel 6'10” Medium Power Extra Fast action spinning rod.  Unfortunately they don't make it anymore and I covet it because I have caught over 500 fish on this rod using only a wacky rig.

IMO, yes it is. It's a slow, quiet, non-aggressive presentation.

Well Id say it is what you want it to be. Mat fishing wacky rigs is what I prefer over using a frog.

 

 

 

Can you use an ML rod for wacky rigging?  Yes but a Medium power rod seems like it has the proper amount of spine.  

Finesse is not a bad word, rather a necessity to getting some things done!

To me depends on when and where I’m fishing it. Spring time near flooded brush or on beds no not fineness, late summer on bluff walls for suspended fish yes. 

Is it a finesse technique? Yes.

Does it have to be on ML or even L rods? No

 

While occasionally I'll toss a wacky on my ML rig - mostly I stick with the Medium power spinning gear. If I'm tossing it into heavy 'cabbage' I might even move up to my MH spinning rig.

I guess i personally base finesse on the weight of the bait. Weightless senko can be cast well with regular baitcasting gear so not finesse in my book. 

 

For me, finesse would be trick worm and lighter

 

... Then again i dont even consider finesse jigs finesse unless they are hair jigs and not your standard rubber jigs 

IMO, finesse is the gear, not necessarily the bait. You are still finesse fishing if you are power fishing a UL rod, reel and line. Because when you hook the fish, the bait weight doesn’t matter anymore.

Yes, I would call it Finesse. 

 

I fish them on a MXF spinning rod.

Is it finesse? IMO it is, and a spinning rod is a good choice especially in open water situations. With spinning tackle you can let out line a little more easily to allow the bait to fall vertically. 
 

This is an old pic of my setup for pitching senkos, as I’m a little more target oriented in my approach. A baitcasting rod allows me to have more control of the cast and be accurate. I did go to braid over the fluoro...

Yes, the presentation of flipping and pitching is considered to be finesse no matter what bait you have on your line.

I throw wacky rigged senkos, the majority of the time, on MH baitcasting gear...

Looks like my old Loomis 722 IMX. I've got an Aldebaran 50 on it. Weighs next to nothing.

Close @The Bassman, Loomis GLX 843c with a Alphas Type F to bring everything back to the boat. As for the senko, I pretty much still follow the advice of “you can throw any color you want, as long as it’s green pumpkin” lol.
