For the last couple years I have been swapping between the Shimano Curado K and the Curado 70. I love both of them, but I will probably be picking up a higher end model soon. What is your current baitcast reel that you use exclusively without question, or do you swap with a different baitcaster?

I have 9 brands of baitcast reels.  I lean towards Daiwa as my favorite brand.  However, I enjoy them all and have favorites is other brands as well.

Same here. I wanted to like Shimano better ... i really did but these newer Daiwas are something nice. 

That said, I have not tried any "golden age" Shimanos only I and K series.

I've got mostly lews now with a couple shimanos left in the cycle. The lews custom pro has quickly became my favorite reel. I've used a bunch of them from all manufacturers and the lews are just killer for me and their customer service is top notch!

No I or K.  A, B and E with an older Exsence DC thrown in.  Did pick up a Scorpion 71HG last year and a Bantam MGL about 2 months ago.  Not used the MGL yet and the 71HG only once so far.

I've read really good things about the Tournament Pro LFS.  Absolutely don't need any more reels, but may have to break down and buy one of these.

Curado 70 is a great reel and the most comfortable/palmable for me.  However, if I’ll be skipping anything, or throwing light lures (under a 1/4 oz) then I’m a Daiwa SV guy 100%.

I like both Daiwa and Shimano.  

 

It's kind of hard to help choose one for you.  What are you intending to use it for?  What rod are planning on putting on?

 

If you are going high end, the Daiwa Steez SV TWS or the Shimano Metanium.

My primary fishing is LMB, but I catch other things occasionally. The curado K is on a medium heavy fast action rod. I was thinking of buying a medium action rod, so the fish fighting is more interesting. What is your opinion on using a baitcaster, like the curado for example, with light action/medium actions rods? I can buy a more expensive baitcaster than the Curado but I don't have a great reason to justify it.

I have the Curado K and it will be just fine for a medium rod not sure about a ML or L though.  I would prefer a lighter, more finesse type reel for that type of fishing. 

I might get a medium rod and try it out. The Metanium and Bantam are sweet reels...thing of beauty. I can afford it, I just hesitate to hit the order now button lol...it's sort of like just buying stuff to buy it..no real reason to have it

I'm more of a Daiwa guy, but the Curado DC is the one I find myself picking up more often than not. There's something satisfying about making it sing.

yeah when I first saw the DC come out, I already had the Curado k standard, so it did not pay to upgrade just to be more care free when casting. I like the technology but its not enough to buy it for me.

Dang my blue buddy has done switched it up on me? Wow I have been away too long.  

 

Years ago I got on the lews Tp bandwagon and I havent gotten off of it yet.  I have an old chronarch and a couple daiwas but I can pick up a lews tp and go right to work.

Yep mostly just buy to be buying something cant pass on a good sale. Just bought a Quantum TourS3 didnt need it or even want a new reel but they were 50% off.

I know I wont be buying any SV spooled reel dont like the higher brake profile plus dont notice any performance gain actually a little less from other reels I have in the same price range.  I dont think you would be upgrading buying a tatula sv from what you have now.

 

I have 70's and K's and each has their purpose, but for everyday grind it out fishing I prefer my really fast K's.  I guess the very top of a fun reel is my one and only one Chronarch MGL in the fast series..  Too pricy to have several of those LOL.

I have an 19' Antares, Bantam MGL, Daiwa SV103.  I use my Antares more than any. 

My favorite production reel is the Bantam MGL. I have the XG for frogging/punching and it is just a winch.

I've had Daiwa & Shimano, now I only have Daiwa's.

I notice a lot of people comment they have had both reel brands, and end up sticking with Daiwa lol. Why is this so for you anyway? clearly they are both high quality companies, but I'm curious to know...is it a special feature, or build quality etc?

I prefer the feel in hand, exterior adjustment and knobs with the Daiwa reels. I've also had them apart for cleaning/service so they are a simple reel to service. All my Fuego reels only cost me anywhere from $65-75 for my Fuego models, Tatula 100 $100.00. 

For bass sized baitcasters it would have to be the curado k in 7.1. Super dependable, easy to use, smooth and doesn’t break the bank. For bigger stuff no question the tranx 300, 400, and 500. I really want to try some higher end bass reels but every time I look at the price I think that I could buy another tranx or Calcutta d, or finally buy a Calcutta conquest.
