Buying and reselling fishing gear

Featured Replies

Where can I find fishing gear cheap enough to resell? I seen a guy on eBay selling brand new 13 fishing fate black rods for $70 which is $30 under retail. Where are they finding this stuff? Forgive me if this is the wrong forum.

They probably picked those items up during the deep sales some place have had the last couple months - 35%off, 40%off. They can ask more than they paid and still be under retail price.

You could go into the store and swap tags on the rods. LOL

I'm sure some here remember that guy.

Oh Man, that’s a blast from the past!

I paid $40 shipped each for a few 7'1 MH Fate Black Rods a few months back, I wouldn't pay much more for them to be honest. I don't buy and resell to make money, I buy to try out different stuff and resell to make my money back, but in this case I got them and didn't even care to use them. I did like the 13 Defy Black Crankbait Rod though.

Fishing gear doesn't hold its value great, and if it does, you're not going to find enough of it to sell and make much profit.

The only place that I know is the Bass Pro catalog outlet.  Rods are sketchy since a lot of them have had the tips broken off.  But several area small shops buy and resell referb reels.  I talked to a guy in there with an arm load of reels.  He said he had bought and resold over 400 through his shop in a neighboring town.

Are you asking how to become a fishing dealer/retailer? If so, get a business license and open up dealer accounts with whatever company you so choose.

Pro staff deal or closeouts. I have access to a dealer book and get reels for what most would call cheap ( extremely relative term). The profit margin for most rod and reel dealers per product is low. I mean really low.

They sell them cheaper cause they got contacts.....i bought 2 ALX NIB for 90 each last yr they were 250.... the guy had 20 of each rh and lh and difff ratios im sure he paid only 50 for each buying that many and making at least  a 30$ profit ..its all about who u know .im not a businessman but id assume id call all small places nationwide ask if they have any left over reels new in box and make a deal for all and mark up each one 50 ....

Many make impulsive purchases especially when it comes to tackle. Soon enuf you have stuff you like and you have stuff you don’t, eventually you start selling it. It’s hard to pass up a good deal even if your not really needing the tackle at the time.

Some things on eBay are auction items purchased from a retailer going out of business if new in the box. To make any money the seller needs to be able to ship at reasonable costs and shipping rods is expensive.

Lots of items on eBay are resold garage sale items being bought cheap and resold. Check the sellers history, some sellers and buyers are not reputable. Some buyers return items with a broken identical item and claim it was damaged in shipping. All kinds of folks, good and bad.

Sometimes you also just get lucky. Academy I go to had a cage full of Lews TP1s and Team All Star rods going for $15 each a while back.

A friend of mine did that back in the 80s at a large department store.  Turned out the cashier was big into fishing.  He did 30 days in the county jail and got a $500 fine.
