I don't why I hold this guy in such high regard but I do.  Maybe its because I discovered, when I first started fishing, you don't need heavy line to fish for bass.  All you need is six and eight pound line, maybe 4 and 10, on spinning reels and that's it!  And I totally agree with him that light line/spinning reels/rods are sporting equipment and heavy line/rod/baitcasters are "hossing" equipment.  I think the videos featuring Charlie Brewer are a classic and should be preserved by the U.S. government on the National Film Registry.  

 

 

 

Charlie and his ideas and lures are classic.  He’s gone but his family still runs the business in the same place.  I always prefer doing business with companies like his.  The ones that started with a guy who’s just wanted to find a way to catch more fish.  It seems like those companies are slowly being replaced by the companies trying to find a better way to market the stuff they buy from China.

So many great pioneering anglers that time (and subsequently modern anglers) have forgotten. Charlie was definitely one of them 

I have had limited luck with his system but I use his jig heads for all kinds of stuff.  That was a great doc and I really want a "Slider" hat now.

Charlie's 1.5" slider paddle tail grubs are killer on everything from panfish and trout all the way to smallies.  I run a 1/16 head when fishing the smaller fish and a 1/8 for the smallies.  That black with chartreuse tail and crawfish are my go to colors for smallies and for trout I like hot pink and white.

Charlie Brewer was my introduction to the “do-nothing” delivery (late 60s/early 70s).

I still have many of his jigheads and many of Charlie’s grubs, which are made of neutrally buoyant plastic that I really like. I also have the book he published in 1978, called “Charlie Brewer on Slider Fishin”, the foreword was written by Ray Scott.

Started Slider fishing back in the 80's. Still have one of his short slider rods. Think I may have to start back Slider fishing some. Enjoyed the video.

I still have a bunch of his slider jigs.

It all works. The fishing industry has a knack of reinventing the wheel in order to lure anglers in to spend their money!
