I have 65lb braid and I’m thinking abt using it for buzzbaits but I’ve heard to go lighter

Not required but I don’t see a problem with it. I don’t buy the theory of stretchy line keeps you from pull the bait away. The hard part of any top water fishing is waiting to feel the bite after seeing the blowup. 

Depends - are you tossing the buzzbaits into heavy cover - weeds, lilypads, etc - or running them over the top of submerged weeds?

 

I don't cast buzz/chatters into heavy slop, so I'm fine with 12# Yo-Zuri for those techniques. I only use heavy braid (50#) when I'm pitching/bubba-shotting into heavy weeds.

I either throw it on pad lines or into some lay downs or brush

While I do agree that waiting to feel the bite is almost a must to have a good hookup ratio, I think having some stretch may help at times.

 

That being said, I use 50lb braid so maybe I don't buy it either.

I would use 50 lb Sufix 832 instead if  I was using braid

65 lb will work fine, but you might find that 40-50 lb offers better casting distance and more than enough strength

I'm a buzzbait fanatic. If you throw them on braid be sure to keep your drag loose or fish them on a rod with some give. I tried them on braid for one season and lost a few key fish due to what I assume was ripping big holes in there mouths and would loose them part way back to boat 

 

Depending on the cover, I normally use 50-lb braid, but will often use 30-lb braid.

As for 65-lb braid, almost never.

Why a sinking flouro leader on a buzzbaits? 

To each his own here, but i settled on 17lb XL mono for my buzzers and it works really well.

Fisherman have this in common......they vary drastically in equipment and technique. Lol

 

I throw a Buzzbait on mh rod, 20# braid and sweep the rod instantly on bite, just like a spinnerbait. 

Last year I wasn't prepared to throw a buzzbait on an outing but when I got on the water decided to throw one.  The only rod that didn't have anything tied on was my H/Fast with 50 lb Sufix so that's what it went on.  I have to say I liked that set up for sure.  With the braid and the heavier rod the bass pretty much set the hook themselves. 

I splurge on my buzzbait line. Stren Original 14 lb and catch fish pretty much anywhere a buzzbait can be thrown.

1. thick floro takes a while to sink. I had to use straight floro on a whim one time and it worked ok. If you have a decent 8.1 reel, its cranking in almost 9' of line per second (36" ipt @ 3 turns per second). the line doesn't have time to sink.

 

2.  I also believe having a section of stretchy line helps with hookup ratio. Might be psychological but I think it helps.

 

3. I fish clear water primarily. so the floro helps. im not sold on fish seeing the line, but again it adds confidence.

 

That being said, if im fishing heavy vegetation, I use straight braid. Open water and shallow cover, I use the floro leader. My reccomendation is to try it out one day fishing for fun. doesn't even have to be when they are biting. Just make a few casts and see how it feels. Gotcha

Usually 65lbs PP maxcuatro which is the size of normal 50lbs line, to a short chunk of 60lbs floro or 15-30 tie-able titanium to keep the teeth away. I’ve usually will throw them on a heavy rod, sometimes a Mh. It has a large single hook so I’m not worried about a soft rod or stretchy line. When it comes to setting the hook I do it just like a frog, once the lure disappears I set the hook. I have a lot better hookup percentage this way than waiting second or two, just my experience.

Since looooong ago, I've thrown my buzzbaits on either 12 or 14/15 lb mono, still do to this day. w, if I were tossing into heavy cover, I'd go with 50 lb braid, no leader...

Just because fluoro will sink on its own doesn’t mean it will drag down large moving bait. It might affect the attitude of a stationary jerkbait but that’s about it. Conversely, something slightly more than neutral buoyancy like braid isn’t going to lift a bait.
