Rage Toad

Featured Replies

Hey Guys,

Anyone ever fish with the rage toad by strike king? Looks like a cool top water lure. Any tips with it? Any success stories? Good colors to choose?

Thanks!

Not the  Rage Toad but I use the Ribbet which is the same genre . I Use braid , its the only lure I use braid with . I missed so many bass with mono that I had to make the switch . I use a 5/0 Berkely Fushion wide gap hook. Rig it up a little short so that it keeps a slight bow like a canoe on the bottom . That will keep it from flipping over .I use a 7 foot med hvy rod because a longer rod wont fit in my truck bed .

I used either a Zoom Horny Toad or a Gambler Cane Toad with 50 pound Power Pro braid and a Gambler Double Trouble Toad Hook.  Good sharp hooks are a must.   The hardest part of plastic frog fishing is learning to drop back on a strike.  As the Harris Chain has cleared in recent years, toad fishing has gotten better.   Toads are tearing it up right now.

The Rage Toad is actually the only buzz toad type bait I've ever thrown. It works well. I throw it on a 4/0 Owner weighted beast hook.

Used them successfully for years and they are great but get chewed up quick and need to be replaced. Also not great at being weedless.

Went to homemade Whopper Frogs and solved both of those problems and caught far more fish.

Thanks guys! Would I be okay using a 3/0 hook for this lure? Would it make a huge difference?

One of the best toads out there. The Rage Tail Shad is a great bait for using like a toad as well.

It's a really cool inexpensive topwater lure.  The video Glenn made was pretty cool.

Hers a hack that I came up with last year that works well . After I run the hook through the nose but before running it back into the toad  , I run it through a rubber disc that I punch out of a bicycle inner tube .  When the toad is fresh , the hook stays in place well with the point in the groove , so I slide the disc up the hook for now . After a fish or two the toad gets worn and the point doesnt stay in the groove , thats when I slide the disc in place against the toad . I  find it difficult to skin hook and this hack has works splendidly .

I also use a barrel swivel on the line and through the hook to keep the toad from sliding down and from tearing up . You will catch a lot more fish per bait doing that .

Last year was my first toad fishing and I really got into it . I experimented a lot and am still experimenting with them .

I would avoid buying Rage Toads at Walmart. They are cheaper than everywhere else, but it seems like they are selling the miscasts in the little blister packs.
