*For those that use Zoom Mag Trick Worms (7")  or Strike King  Bull Worms (8") and similar over size straight tail worms  - explain your rod , reel , line and hook set up as well as what tactics you use to fish these over sized straight tail worms for bass ?

I use a 6'9" mh rod , 17 lb test trilene xl and a  6.3 to 1 baitcast reel . Pretty basic setup . 4.0 to 5.0 offset hook .

I fish them from one foot to the depths up tp 40 foot . Could go deeper if need be .  Use them just about everywhere, They excel in heavy cover .I pitch and cast with the same rod . An eight inch worm pairs up well with a 1/4 ounce tungsten or lead weight . I mainly employ a lift and drop retrieve .

Lew's Tournament MB 7.5:1

Berkley Big Game Mean Green 15#

Mustad Grip-Pin Big Bite Hook 4/0

I  don't fish them very often, but I got some bigger shakey heads, 3/8 & half ounce heads, appropriate size hooks, and I'll throw them on 15 lb Abrazx.

On a few of my home made jika rigs, I used a regular bend 5/0 worm hook and fished the bigger Zoom trick worm on that.   That bait is the one I'll try when fish don't want a Brush Hog or Mad Paca on my jika rig.

Good replies , I got some 1/4th oz. 5/0 shaky heads to try ... Otherwise I believe weightless or T-Rigged with a 1/4 oz. lift and drop technique would be good to try (maybe a Tokyo Rig set up with a 4/0 or 5/0 EWG hook) . I have a 7' MH / F bait cast rod with a 7:1 reel and P-Line CX-X #12 lb. moss green line to try with one of these "Baby Huey" size worms on !

REEL:   Shimano Stradic  6.2 ratio

HOOK:  Mustad Grip-pin Big Bite 4/0

Powell endurance 723c

Lews Tournament pro.

50lb Daiwa J Braid with Sniper FC 12lb

Weightless to 1/4 tungsten bullet

4/0 Ewg

Will also throw a 3/16 shakey head jig

Powell Endurance 683c

Daiwa Pixy Liberto

30 lb Daiwa braid, 12 lb sniper fc

Use this mainly for the shakey head, I love this set up to skip it under docks and trees -

My sons rig

Daiwa Xt 7'0 MH

13 Origin C reel

50lb J Braid, 15lb Assassin FC

Weightless up to 1/4 ox with 4/0

My son only has 3 rods.  I put his up here as an illustration, that it doesnt have to be a super specific rod to pull this off.  He does it well with his 7'0 MH.

7' 3" Okuma TCS H/F, 8.1 Daiwa Tatula SV TWS, 15lb Tatsu, 1/8-1/4oz swinging football head with a 4/0 EWG.

7FT M Legend Xtreme, Curado 70, 10lb. Tatsu , 1/4 oz. Picasso shaky head .

7' G Loomis IMX  MH, 30lb braid, 15lb leader, 8" Jelly Worm, 1/4-3/8 weight, Mustad 4/0 grip pin off set hook.

This rig is tied on all summer. That hook is the prefect size for this meaty worm and has an excellent hookup ratio.

I fish it slow, dragging and small hops around weeds and, wood,

I use the same rod/reel/line for T-rigged worms as for casting jigs.

7 1/2" to 9" straight tail worms;

Owner 5103  or Gamakatsu 484, size 4/0 straight shank round bend worm hooks

3/16 oz painted brass bullet weight with 8mm glass faceted bead.

ALX custom 6'10" fast 5 power rod, Daiwa Tatula 100R 8:1, 12 lb Sunline Shooter FC.

I do the same thing with big swimming worms. Does a much better job keeping them from hanging up while dragging them through rocks.

I'll be trying a wobble head jig with both styles of worms you mentioned - cool technique !
