The bait monkey was hard on me last week. I bought several things from TW, including Fish Lab Soft Bio Gill Weedless Swimbait in ghost bluegill. I purchased the 4.5" swimbait, and must have missed that it was a 1-1/2 oz bait. The rod I was planning on using this bait on is a Daiwa Aird X AIRX701MHFB, which is rated to 1 oz. It looks like a really nice bait. I guess the smart thing would be to return it to TW and replace it with the 3-5/8" version at 3/4 oz. How is returning baits to TW?

Just get another reel and an Aird-X 701HFB - that one's rated to the 1-1/2 of that lure...just don't try to send it into orbit on casts.

A little twist of the hips or rotation of the shoulders will send a heavy bait a long way.

Sounds like a fine excuse for a new rod & reel. 

Now you just need another combo. LOL. I have a few baits that are too big for any of my combos. I just throw them on the biggest, stoutest MH I have with braid. Maybe not ideal, but it gets it done. I also have a 7'3" XH-XF frog combo if I want to go that route. But it has a frog tied on it about 9 months of the year.

Yeah, I don’t need anything that heavy as the ponds I fish don’t have thick vegetation. I guess a HF casting rig would be ok for heavier baits like this swimbait. 

Dobyns Fury 795SB and a Tranx 200 HG is the answer to your question. Not to expensive, but it makes those baits enjoyable to throw. When fishing my swim bait rods I throw the bigger bait in a particular area then follow up with a swim jig. Breaks up the monotony of throwing the bigger baits, and sometimes picks up a fish that wasn't interested in the swim bait.    

That's not how the bait monkey works. The bait monkey now demands you buy a new rod to handle the bait

Honestly I would just throw it on that rod, but just lob it out there instead of trying to cast it a mile. You should be fine if you are careful with how you cast it. 

I got a really nice Swimbait for Christmas. I didn’t have anything to throw it on. That sweet little gift cost me $700.

That’s my fear lol. With the 10/0 weighted screw-in hook they recommend to use, the total weight would be 2 oz. That’s a full oz. over the rod’s weight range.

A half ounce really isn't that much weight.  I don't think you'll hurt your rod.  I've thrown my Shell Cracker g2 which is 1.5oz on my rods that only go up to an ounce and never had any issues.  Just don't try to whip cast it or anything.  A nice lob cast will work just fine.

It’s a moot point. I now have a Daiwa Fuego CT paired a Fenwick HMX76H-FC. Looking forward to breaking it in! 

Throwing large swimbaits is like splitting a cord of wood. 

 

I fish to enjoy myself.   

 

Heck, I was 50 before I threw anything over 1/4 oz. 

 

guess ive been finesse fishing before it was "finesse " 

 

now at 77, I pretty much fish 1/16-1/4 oz baits on light tackle. 

   I don't even own a Heavy action rod. 

But by all means, y'all keep throwing those anchors!!
