Norman speed clips on 10xd

Featured Replies

I have never used clips on my cranks but after reading up on it sounds like it’s worth a try. Just wondering if anyone has used the Norman speed clips on a 10xd

I remove split rings and use speed clips on all crankbaits and have gone up to 6xd and have never had an issue. At the first sign of any damage/change, the speed clip gets tossed.

I have been using the speed clips on most of my hard baits- crankbaits, jerkbaits and topwater. Makes it quick and easy to change out lures.

I haven't used it on anything that big though.

TackleAdvisors proof tested paperclips and found most didn't come close to their load rating, with the exception of Tactical Anglers.

"Speed Clips" lol.  I use Duo Locs.  Takes me 1/10th the time to change the bait.  I despise tying to a split ring.

I liked the Speed Clips,,,,,,when my hands and the clips are dry, and my hands are warm...otherwise not worth the effort and frustration........lol

Do you use the swivel type DuoLock?

I use the Owner hyper welded snaps in the large size-60lb rated. I have never had a problem or failure with them.

I hate fumbling with a snap, especially if my hands are cold.  I can tie a knot quicker than I can normally deal with a snap.   I also hate when the knot gets to the ends of a split ring.   A friend of mine gave me a big pack of duo locks.  I replace my round snap rings with them most of the time, but just leave them on the lure instead of using them to change lures.  I believe they're #2 size.   I like the oval/oblong shaped split rings but I've got a bag of snaps.

I tried to like clips, but I'm contacting bottom and cover too often when cranking to not end up tying the clip on again.  I've found it's just easier not to carry another pack of something and just tie to the ring.

At least 3/4 of my baits already have clips, so I'm usually retying anyway when changing out. #2 covers most bases, but #3 for big plugs.

I like the duolock snaps, I've been using them for years.  I've learned that if the snap gets damaged it's best just to cut it off. Straightening it back out will just weaken it.

OK , might be a silly question the Duo Lock to the crank, no split ring , and tying on the other end. . I've used the Duo Locks but just retie after 3-5 fish and connect to the stock ring.

Yes, exactly this. I cut the rings off with lineman pliers.

I always run a snap fishing cranks.  If the bait comes with a split ring I put a snap on the split ring.  If it doesn’t come with a split ring I don’t put a split ring  on

Speed clips are not that difficult (IMO) if you don't squeeze

them. Just slip them on sideways, work the clip open over

the eye and you're good.

You want to firmly grasp them between you thumb and index finger. Once you have a good grip, walk over to the trash and release your fingers. Solved.

Crankbaits the 33 lb size is light and easy to open or close.

Norman Speed clips can be very difficult to remove, I don’t use them.

Berkley Cross Lock is strong, my 2nd choice.

Sometimes I wear a belt, sometimes I wear suspenders... sometimes I wear both.

And sometimes I'll leave the split ring on, but just snap through the eye instead and let the split ring dangle.   Really, it's whatever's easiest.

I don't use heavy line for cranking, so I almost never bend out snaps or split rings.  About 30lb braid or 12# mono/fluoro/poly is about as thick as I like to go, for depth reasons.  So my line usually snaps long before any hardware failure.  So I generally pick whichever sized snap will be the easiest to get on and off.

These are the only clips I use if bass fishing, for panfish I will use  duo lock snaps.

These take one second to put on/take off and won't bend out.

The worst clips I ever used were VMC.

I use the same clips on bigger tackle and never had an issue. They are quick and easy to use.
