Just noticed on St. Croix's website that most of the Avid series rods say sold out and the image of the rod on their site is a different color than the ones I have.  So are we going to see a new Avid rod or something different?  Even the label looks different.  Did they update this and I missed it?

I cant see SC phasing out the entire Avid family, although they haven't had any significant improvements in recent years there still a great American made rod.  The current Inshore Avids are some of the nicest looking rods IMO, combined with the way they fish its no wonder just about everyone who seriously fishes the sod banks or bridge hops has at least 1.  SC did scrub the standard Inshore and improved the Mojo inshore with better components a new handle design and nice paint job.

I havent bought a SC in a few years, so Im exited to see these new rods.  Hopefully it wont be like the Rage series.

  • It's two things I like, really.  And that isn't too hard to figure out, is it?  If you must delve into semantics in order to debate online, I'm game for the extra posts.  I prefer an up locking seat o

Hopefully it will be an updated Avid but after reading some posts and info, I think its going to be a new rod positioned below the Avid.  I hope they don't pull a marketing push that causes them to raise prices once again on all rods.

Victory makes sense, they kept mentioning wins in the previews.

Avid rods are not species or technique specific, they wont get rid of those and upset walleye and multi-species anglers.  I could see them getting rid of the Avid X though

I think what there trying to do is to give you a rod thats as good or better then the avid blank wise for less money so they can compete a little better with the made in china Shimanos.  For 180 or 200$ American made rod I don't expect the components to be on par with the higher $ Avids like the inshore.  I was kind of hoping it would be made in Mexico TBH, that way you would get a little more for your money.

Technically the freshwater avids arent species specific, but some of the avid X models are technique spec for bass, they just took the specs from the mojos and made them with a better blank and components when the avid X rods came out.  I thought they had an avid panfish and maybe even an avid trout line that have been discontinued.

The TD doesnt sell very many standard freshwater avids compared to avid Xs, avid inshores, they will order 1 from the warehouse to the retail location but otherwise they haven't stocked the standards for a while now.

Croix is almost sold out of Avid X. Kind of mad at it.

A local to me store has some St Croix on clearance. I wonder if it has to do with the new series coming out?

I'm guessing the Linder family teaser trailer is the newest news available? While I like Al and company, I really wish they'd get to the big reveal.

Also, in case anyone missed it, SC released a video explaining the "new" material this rod would be made of.

I am very interested (and excited) to check this one out.

Really hopeful that this stick is & actually does what Mr Teach talks about in this clip.

And it would be nice if St Croix would actually produce enough on the first run

to at least come close to the potential demand.

Well, at least mine anyway.

I just visited the website and the Victory looks like a pretty nice rod.  I'm glad that it's being made in Wis. and not Mexico.

Curious about the "12 completely new lengths/powers/actions". So far the initial release models all seem pretty standard other than the 7'3" M X fast, which is fairly unique. Wish it was casting though. Nonetheless very excited!

Very interested in seeing complete line up, wish there were a few more options for initial release.

Just ordered an avid x but cancelled it after seeing this....I can be patient and see what this rod entails.  Why not right?  I can grab a avid x on sale if it's not what I am looking for....Matching it with a vanford 2000...

I wonder where in SC's rod line up the Victory will fall?  Will it be between an Avid and Legend Tournament?  Price wise that seems to be the case.  I'm intrigued but not too interested.  I've spent more than my allowance money the last couple of years on LT's, LE's, and LX's from SC.

Nevermind - Saw the limits on the sizes and the victory isn't what I am looking for.  Re-ordered the 6' 6" avid x ml f on sale for $40 off (last one).  No patience obviously to get my new gear and no patience for the winter to be over with....Can't wait until spring.

Too bad St Croix didn't use better guides on these rods. The Concept O guides are below the excellent fazelite guides Fuji makes. Old school deep pressed aluminum oxide guides on what seems like a very nice rod.

As a retired veteran, I'm liking the new model names. Hopefully, St. Croix adds a good bit of the expected color scheme. I just bought  another company's rod based off a review and their O.D. Green Color scheme. It reminded me of the old jeeps, But I'm still a huge St. Croix fan at heart.

“Full Contact Finesse” for a H/XF rod?

??

That is a very interesting rod indeed, once you get past the name. It sounds alot like a 735 frog rod, which never leaves my boat. If they made a rod like that with improved sensitivity, I would buy it.

I edited my post, it's actually listed as 7'3 H/XF on their website. We'll have to see how it fishes because on a specs level it's similar to the 7'4 H/F. I always thought of the 7'4 as their frog rod but I know it's versatile as people use them for all sorts of things. I actually recently bought a 7'4 h/f to use for this season. I'd like to fish for LM more and I needed a frog/punching rod.

Also, thank you for your service.

Yes which is it, XHF or HXF?

One of my favorite rods of all time is the LES70MF.

I'm looking forward to trying their new rods.
