Jig . I am going to fish jigs this year . Seems like everyone fishes them and one fellow I was talking to even gave me one , telling me it's his never fail bass catcher. We will see .

Please share your successes throwing them this year! If there's one thing that I've learned this past year, it's that I should have been throwing them a whole lot more. I will be experimenting with rolling heavier custom spinnerbaits with small, single colorado blades in addition to the lighter single colorado ones I already have.

 

My own bait I tell myself that I will throw but don't is the fluke. Gonna throw a magnum sized one more this year.

A drop shot.  One season, about ten years ago, I tried and actually caught fish using it. I put it down and haven't gone back to it since.  Post frontal conditions were my nemesis the last couple of seasons as I'm a little on the stubborn side about using finesse techniques.

You and me both. Like exactly. Started 2020 with no Jackhammers. Ended it with three. Not a big collection compared to some but that's still $45 in chatterbaits! Also got an umbrella rig recently and I am now obsessing over swimbaits for it. Havent caught a fish on it yet, but the jackhammer I sure have!

Umbrella rig is a true joy. Cast out, stuck on log, there goes $30. Wonderful 

Ned.  I get sick of catching little perch quick.

Dropshot....maybe.  I HATE fishing slow so I might not, not sure I care...but I probably should because I know it is needed some days.  Normally on those days I will just go find slop and target a few beasts with a frog instead.

 

That being said, I see people over and over again try something new at the wrong time.  Choose the lure, the appropriate time to throw it and go throw it.  Do NOT switch to a different confidence bait right away, do not throw it where you aren't confident in it from what you expect and do not throw it when your other confidence baits aren't working.  If you follow those steps you will expand your arsenal and build confidence more quickly.  

Not sure if this is redundant with a post I made earlier; not sure if it applies directly.  I’m doing a major attitude adjustment which definitely involves new lures, mostly swim baits and glide baits.  I used to land a few bass every year in the four-pound category, but for the last two years I’ve not caught anything over two and a half pounds.  So ... this year my boxes are only packed with two types of baits, swim/glide baits up to seven inches and jigs with trailers.   Not even taking anything else.  Oh, yeah.  Nothing over $30.00 ... unless these don’t work. (I know the S-Wavers work ... so do three toothy scuzzbutts who liberated them last fall.) Finally I now have excuses for getting skunked, to boot!  

 

 

Plan on fishing more tubes this spring. I've gotten away from them in recent years.
