New to fishing - from lurker to fisher :D

Featured Replies

Hi all! :)

Francis here from Los Angeles, California. Completely new to rod and reel fishing. Growing up elsewhere on earth I have fished but used mainly a bamboo pole, unrated nylons, simple hooks and nightcrawlers as bait where I caught all sorts of stuff lol so all these rod and reel jargons are new to me. Have always been a nature lover so I decided to take up fishing to force me to "get out there". Spent the last 10 days doing heavy reading, researching and understanding jargons (so many jargons, yikes!) ratings, techniques, species, and even phone apps for finding the nearest mud puddle. I'd like to thank the forum users who have posted here - their posts and opinions have been immensely helpful! :D

That said, finally ordered a medium-fast 7 foot rod and 2500 reel as my starter, all-purpose rod and reel. Will target mostly bass for now while I am still learning :D As for interest, I am very Interested in backwood small creeks and ponds especially, but also lake banks and rivers! Cant wait to get my rod so I can practice casting out in the yard lol

Hope to learn from all of you some more! Have a good night! :D

L.A. is a big place, but if you want " wild shoreline, might check out Castaic lower lake. From the launching area if your facing the lake, although they call it a lagoon, walk to your right, there's a path that leads to the shoreline. Some good sized bass in there.
