Hey guys. I just bought a Shimano Vanford VF1000F and paired it with a Johnny Morris Carbonlite v2.0 6', light, fast spinning rod. I was reading on basspro reviews that many people have broken this rod. I'm going to run 15lb suffix 832. Does anybody have experience with this rod?

I’ve had the six foot six for over two years and have had no problems. I rather like it. 

No experience with that  line, but it is well thought of by many.  Just came on to you to the forum.  Lots of good reading here.  Be sure to read some of the stickies.  There are how to articles and equipment reviews as well.  Lots of good reading if you have the time.  Glen puts out quite a few good videos, too.

I use 832 a bunch. It's good line.

 

And if you were gonna break the rod, it'd break whether you're using braid or not. I've broken two rods ever. Both times I was being stupid or doing something I knew better than to do.

While I don't have that particular model, I do own a Carbonlite 2.0 6'8 M-XF paired with a Shimano Stradic FL with 20lb suffix 832 braid to a 6lb leader. Had the rod for two years now, love it. In fact I also own 2 casting rods that are carbonlites. Love the rods. Very durable. 

 

Set your drag to slip just after a hard Hookset and don't high stick the rod or hit the blank with a Lure, you should be fine. 

 

I take care of my gear but I don't baby them on the water. They can take a beating.

The only way I've broken a rod was stepping on it or lifting a fish to the deck of the boat with a med or lighter action rod.

I've been fishing  more than a few years.  Broke one rod trying to get away from the waves created by an inconsiderate boater so I wouldn't get my shoes and compression socks wet.

Keep in mind people who break rods are a lot more likely to leave a bad review than someone who uses the model for years without issues.  

I've got 3 or 4 Carbonlite 2.0 that haven't broken. Maybe I'm not fishing hard enough. One's a 7'6" medium fast spinning rod that's subdued a pile of stripers & hybrids.

I have 3 of them also. I find them tough as nails. 2 of them have 3 seasons of hard use bank fishing, with no issues. The newest one is over a year old with heavy use. They get atleast a couple hours a week of use. They really are very rugged. 

Every rod from every brand can be broken either intentionally, by accident or from hard use.  I got a Carbonlite 2 6'6" spinning rod that I use regularly and like a lot.  Would not hesitate to get another one at the right price. 

It has a 10 year warranty.

A lot of the reviews on Bass Pro, for any rod, complain about rod's breaking.  I think that's because a lot of people who write those reviews step up from an Ugly Stik and think that for more money, it ought to be more durable.  But generally speaking, the more sensitive the rod is, the more expensive it is and the more fragile it will be.  But as long as you don't abuse it, it shouldn't break on you.  They're made to be fished with in extreme circumstances.  They're not made to be stepped on or banged against stuff.  

 

The only rod I've ever had break on me was a BPS PQII.  It snapped on a cast the second time I took it out fishing.  I'm guessing it was either a manufacturer's defect or it got damaged in shipping or by a customer on the floor.  In either case, Bass Pro took it back, no questions or receipt asked, and gave me a replacement.  The replacement has been bulletproof for me.  Most of my rods are BPS brand rods, and with that one exception, they've all held up really well, and they all had a ton of reviews online about people complaining about them breaking.  My last one I got, I ordered online and had it shipped to my house.  The box it came in was broken in half, but somehow, the rod survived and hasn't given me any problems.  

Just fish it!  Haven't heard any outcry on breakage issues with that line of rods.   Besides the original veritas rods, carrot sticks, and the first run of megabass levante, I don't know of any rods that are just lemons.   Care for your rods, don't step on them, don't allow them to be broken by ceil fans, truck doors or tail gates, don't high stick fish and you will be fine. I've only had 2 break in 20 years.  I broke a veritas when they first came out, and the other was a 18 year old fenwick rod, that sat on my dad's porch for a year and my son broke it last summer setting the hook on a stump.... keep them indoors.   I agree with the others, I read alot of reviews, and i take them with a grain of salt.

I've broken two rods in my life and both were from trying to get out of a snag, and both times it was me reefing on it that broke it. 

 

The only dudes that break rods on hooksets are the guys that high stick constantly, boat flip constantly, or have no idea how to use the drag on their reels.   Same goes with guys that constantly lose fish to line breakages.
