Lure night crawlers are live bait not lures.

I don’t know when I caught my 1st bass. If I had to guess it would be about age 3 to 4 fishing off my grandma’s dock for crappie using a piece of red dyed chamises we used to catch crappies. I don’t remember other then a few old photos holding strings of crappie with my brothers a few bass mixed in. 

I do remember the Hawaiian Wiggler bass casting of Pleasure Point Boat Landing learning to cast, it was about 3 lbs and wasn’t really fishing, just casting retrieving the lure back. Yelling I caught a bass, caught a bass as I ran down the dock to show my brother Bill.

First bass I remember since getting out of college (and getting back into fishing) was on a green/watermelon senko worm texas rigged.

I wouldn't swear to it, but I think it was a Mepps inline spinner...Way to long ago to remember back that far..lol

Gods I remember having one of those in my tackle box back in the 70s. Caught some perch with it, but never bass.

 

IIRC, my first bass was on a Mepps Comet.

First bass I caught was while fishing for blue gill (with leaf worms) and the bass eating the bluegill I was retrieving.  

 

First artificial bait was on a Hot Pink and Silver Bass Assassin.

6" Culprit ribbon tail in what they called Moccasin at the time. Moccasin and Crawdad were very similar in color but the former was hot and the latter never produced a nibble.

 

At some point it looks like the two colors swapped names because I still have some left from the 80's for reference unless they (or memory) got mixed up as sometimes happens when speaking in decades, 

 

As to place, this was in the stained and shallow waters of the Great Dismal Swamp on the Virginia/North Carolina border

Absolutely! 

 

That exact lure, color and all, was deadly on the lower Amite River back in the 1960's. And if truth be told it would probably still catch fish there today.

Introduction to rubber worms was at lake Shasta in 1955 when a old timer gave me a package of Creme harness rigged worms. 

He pointed across the creek arm rip rap shore and said drift this long those rocks. Life changer. #1 natural crawler color.

Blue Fox Vibrotail jig spinner. First decent sized bass (2+ lbs) was caught on a texas rigged Rebel Ringworm. I still have some of these lures!

Those above are H&H 4" worms, known down here as Cheater Worms cause they catch everything.

Mine was either this or a Roadrunner with a curly tail. I always liked the chartreuse head with a camo grub. Caught a ton of everything on those prerigged worms though. 

Purple tube with clear sparkle tail.  1.5 pounds- kept it in our fridge for years because my cousin was going to mount it but never did

Mine was on an orange Creme pre-rigged worm.  It had a prop on the front, a couple of beads, and was rigged on two or three gold hooks with wire weed guards.

The first artificial lure I used to catch a bass was a Rapala Original Floating Minnow.  I caught quite a few early ones on the Rapala Countdown Sinking Minnow as well, but the floating minnow was the first.  Before that, my first bass of all was on a cane pole with a night crawler.

I caught my first bass on a shad dart.

It's been a few years but I would guess a Lazy Ike. I think that what they were called it was orange with black dotes. 

no doubt.  a Sassy Shad.  it was a shad swim-bait that was painted to look like a shad.  I googled the newer version and they just simulate the profile of a shad.  the old ones looked like them.

Live worm, I'm sure, though I can't remember it. I probably caught my first bass on an artificial with a Mepp's Comet Mino in-line spinner. Those catch everything.
