I recently found a pond right by my house with some really large fish and I want to specifically target those bigger bass when I go out there. They are usually very agressive due to limited fishing pressure. What would some good larger baits be in the 1.5oz - 2oz range. I have never thrown a swimbait other than your average sized paddletails so give me some reccomendations please! Main forage is bluegill and likely small baby bass

I don’t throw big swimbaits but I’ve heard good things about the Megabass Magdraft or the Magdraft Freestyle.

A big Spro Rat. You know you want that topwater big fish. 

The R2S S Waver 168 is worth a look.

 

For softer style baits that won't break the bank, Savage Gear has a good selection.

I’ve had great luck with g2 shellcrackers  and keitech 5.8s for pond bass, the shellcracker will catch good numbers of smaller fish too but is hard to find unfortunately.

I actually found a nearly brand new one at the lake awhile back. Ill give it a try 

As mentioned, the Spro rat, S Waver 168. Also at just a tick over 2 oz. the 6" Huddelston works well, either weedless, or top hook. The smaller Spro shad is another option too.

@BlackwaterBass are you sure it’s limited of fishing pressure and not starvation and competition that makes them aggressive?

No these fish are absolutely pumped full of food. Nearly every fish has a full stomach. So far I have caught more 2+ pound fish at this pond than dinks. Its really a gem of a spot.

Youre lucky, because more often than not tons of easy to eat food is the cause of hard to catch fish.

I guess at this pond the bass play by their own rules lol

If your pond has Bluegills. I would consider getting something like Mattlures bluegill swimbaits, they flat out catch fish. They are small enough to throw on say a 7' mh/f, so no special gear is needed.

So I have a giant neighborhood pond near I fish occasionally when I don’t want to hit the lakes, it has giant bass and gets fished heavily every single evening spring through fall. Waking up early and fishing at first light is the way to get bit there. My best day out there was with an American Shad pointer 78, I’m guessing they don’t see any jerkbaits so that might be something to try.

Hey I ain’t a swimbait fisherman but @WRB’s recommendation of the 3:16 mission fish on another post almost made me get one. They come in some larger sizes.

I was thinking about throwing one but i need a color other than shad.

Little Big Swimbaits? Lol

Gantrel jrs. , s wavers, shellcracker, mini slammers all smaller baits that get bit.   Smaller soft baits I like the 68 hud, bluegill hud,  beast coast myagi.    All are realtivley easy to come by as far as swimbait standards go.  

My PB swimbait fish came from a tiny pond on a 7" Slammer.
