had a problem with my pflueger reel which i will discuss later but today i took apart my wifes well used and scarred pflueger president reel, cleaning the line roller bearing assy and yes it was crusty and dirty inside the components.

 

I cleaned up the dirt and then dropped some rem oil onto top of sealed bearing line roller and put back together.

The components look so cheap its a wonder these reels can even stand up to a hard pulling fish. I understand its all about weight savings but still it all looks so weak.

 

Then i felt the need to go further beyond the spool removel and i pulled off the rotor and to my surprise i found more of her long hair wrapped around the shaft. Just really surprised how the hair could get up underneath the rotor where the clearance is very small.

 

Anyway removed the debris-hair and put back together knowing that i will have to periodically have to remove the rotor and that has me thinking that the tiny screws they use to hold the components together may fail.

After a few dissasemblies they may just strip out and then its basically a throw away and get a new one.

 

 

They truly do get it everywhere. It's amazing.

 

Sounds like you needed hair spray more than you needed oil.

My wife is the same way with her hair.  I don't know where it all comes from but I find it in the arm pits of my work shirts.  It's embarrassing and it's gives crazy. But hair in reel, that's new.

Are you sure that’s not fishing line coated in reel grease?? Everytime I’ve removed line from that spot it’s been jet black with grease. Or does your wife have 20 lb test hair??

Agree 100%.  Here is a quote from a quick search.

 

"The thinnest [human hair thickness] is about 2 thousandth of an inch in diameter. The thickest can be about 6 thou'. Most is around 0.004 inches."

 

Absolutely don't let your wife cut her hair.    It is lovely as is.  What your picture shows is several times the diameter of your wife's hair.  And, yes, I've had line get into the same place on a spinning reel.
