I am looking to pair a reel with a G.Loomis E6X 783C MBR 6'-6" Rod.  I do not need/want BFS but I do want something lighter that will cast 10# line with a Ned or Tiny Child Rig.  While I really do like this rod for a small local reservoir that does not allow boats, I do not like the length while using my boat so I know it will only see limited action and I would like to keep the budget $200ish or below.

 

 And why not Shimano?  All of my baitcasting reels are currently Shimano, it just seemed natural to use Shimano when I went over to baitcasting as all of my spinning reels are Shimano but I want to see what I've been or maybe not been missing? from other brands.  Thanks!

Alphas SV TW would be my pick, but it does run slightly above your budget.  Amazon Japan has them for $225 shipped.

I own everything from Abu to XXX, in the $200 to $400ish price points.  My favorites are my Tatula and Zillion SV's.

Sounds like something Daiwa SV would be your best bet.

1. Top quality, but not shimano. 

2. Handles wide range of lure weights well (including lighter stuff) and isn't BFS specific. 

3. Wide range of aftermarket spools if you do want it to be more specific later on.

 

The alphas is a great choice.

I throw weightless Trick Worms on 15# line.

The Daiwa Steez CT SV is a nice reel.  What don't you like about the Shimanos?  The Aldebaran BFS and MGL are insanely light reels and well worth the cost.

Any of the Daiwa's with an SV spool will do the trick.  

Daiwa Tatula SV, right at 200 and amazing with light lures. I love throwing neds and weightless senkos on mine

I have a mix of Shimano and Lew's casters. My favorite for light stuff has been my Lew's Tournament MP. 

That might change tomorrow after trying my new jdm Met.

As for not liking Shimano, I do like Shimano but I want to see what the other brands are like. You never know, I could like them even more?

Out of my favorite reels, only Lew's Super Duty hits your cost window, but Daiwa SV and bench-raced-Abu ZPI Alcance are in my favs - I don't own a Shimano baitcaster, but Metanium is a great choice.  

 

 

 

 

Does it have to be new?  There is a TDZ103H for $125 on another site.  Specs are 6.3:1 ratio, 6.2 oz., 12#/100 yds.  Has Carbontex drag and upgraded bearings.  Reel only.  Admit I am a bit biased towards the Z models.  

 

The Daiwa Steez CT SV is going to be more than twice your budget.

I do prefer it new. While I do want to pair this reel to this specific rod this is more of a “let me try something new” thing. As mentioned, the rod is not going to see alot of use so I want to keep it relatively inexpensive but to also dip my toes into other brands.

 

I have a new Dobyns Rod coming in soon so finding a new reel for the E6X allows me to take the Curado DC currently on the E6X and pair it with the new Dobyns for football jig fishing.

Lew's Pro Sp. Also great for it's intended purpose of skipping, flipping and pitching.
