Store shipped wrong rod. Should I keep it?

Featured Replies

I ordered a St. Croix Victory 72MHMF "Cranker" casting rod. They sent me the 72MHM "Power target cranker" by mistake.

I was planning to use the rod for shallow 3/8oz cranks over grass flats (baits that dive no more than 3' or so), small wake baits, top water poppers (3" 1/2 oz) , and (maybe) 1/4oz chatterbaits.

I figured the MH Mod-fast would do all that and I'd load the real up with mono.

The MH Mod rod they sent me is a little heavier on the low end of the rating, same on the high end; 3/8-7/8oz vs 5/16-7/8oz.

I could send it back no problem, but do the specs on the MHM rod match up better to what I want to use it for?

I don't think either of those two rods is what would work best for the use you describe, but only you can decide what works for you.

ps: I'm not allowed to fun St Croix ad copy here (apparently), so I won't, but I so want to say moderate...

Since you are dealing with grass, they might have sent you the rod you need.

Since you are the customer you are to receive what you paid for. Any variation from that must be agreeable by both parties, customer and retailer. Suggest you contact the retailer and have them present options to you for consideration. Reputable retailers will make sure you are a satisfied customer. Good Luck! Cheers!

Have them sent you the other one. Compare them both and send one back on their dime that you don’t like. They’ll do it.

Based on what you are using it for, you could go with either rod but I would prefer the one they sent you. The one that you originally wanted would be great for lipless cranks, small swimbaits and chatterbaits.

Thanks for the responses. I may end up keeping this rod. But I did let them know they sent me the wrong one and I was going to decide if I wanted to keep it. Otherwise they'll exchange it and return ship on their dime.

I have a Daiwa Tatula 7'2MHR glass/comp rod as well. But I keep that threaded with braid/fluoro leader for chatterbaits through reeds and grass. That's been a good combo.

You, like I, may have serendipity  as your most effective strategy.  I think both will work, but the one sent is probably a better fit.

The rod they sent is a better fit. I much prefer St. Croixs moderate taper over their MF. The MF is more a single hook reaction rod in my mind, even though it has a lighter low end.

It’s worth keeping us updated on your thoughts on the rod over time.

Ask them to send the other rod. You know you need them both.
