I saw two identical Yo-Zuril 3DB 135 Pencil Poppers today and the only thing different was one had silver foil sides with a black top spine and the other had a silver foil sides with a blue top spine ... *I will take an educated guess that the one with the black top spine was for overcast conditions while the other with the blue top spine was for blue sky / sunny day conditions (i.e. similar to Rapala balsa floating minnow colors)  ... Your thoughts and experiences ?  Thanks in advance for replies ! 

Top color does not mean anything to me only the bottom. As long as the bottom is white or black I am fine.

I like the PopMax in a green frog pattern, but he part the fish see is still white.

I use 2 colors of popper primarily: bone and some kind of chrome. I don't care if the back is black blue green magenta or whatever...if the belly is whitish or chrome I'm good. P.S. sometimes a black popper can be magic.

Choose your top colors by what you think looks cool. 

The top color catches fishermen, the bottom color catches fish. 

Fish can't see the top of a topwater. Just pick the prettier one. LOL

I like the Rebel minnows in silver with blue back just cuz I like blue. ?

Pencil poppers hang tail down at rest so Back colors can make a difference. 

If your lack has blue back herring or shad the blue color may work better. The black maybe more dark gray with silvery scale pattern and a good all around contrasting color.

You can’t go wrong with Yo-Zuri prism colors.

Without blue cones can a bass even see blue as blue? Seems like it would be in greyscale. If so black should catch anything junebug will catch.

Thanks Tom - I can understand if a walking bait sits level a bass may not always get a glimpse of the contrasting top spine color but when a top water lure hangs down tail first a bass will often get a better look at the top spine lure color . 

I had a favorite walking top-water a few years back, it had a yellow back and was easy for me to see.  I caught as many bass with it as I did with any other color pattern I fished.  Lost it and haven't found a good replacement yet.

The one with the black back is for catching more anglers, and the one with the blue back is for catching more anglers.

This is one of my favorite colors of the SB-105. The chartreuse back is easier to see.
