Bassmaster Elite at Lake Oahe

This isn't fun at all. Brutal. Looks like lots of blanks happening.

I was reading about it last night.  Apparently the pre-fishing was terrible.  Anglers were having great difficulty.  The reservoir is down about 3-4 feet from just a year ago.  Which really doesn't make much sense since last year the area had a much worse drought.

Another issue is that the smallmouth there are very nomadic.  They don't relate to structure so its like chasing a moving target.  I'm guessing 15 pounds/day for 4 days would put you in the top 10.

Looks like all 90 competitors got a keeper, it’s still fishing a lot better than my home water haha

Naw, Bassmaster visits the same 4 or 5 sites for the Classic.  That's it.  Despite thousands of fisheries.

I'm shocked they're going back to Knoxville, because that's not in their rotation.  I really enjoyed the Knoxville area restaurants. But the venue....not so much.

Expect them to go back to Birmingham again the following year. LOL!!

I was also completely shocked in 2019, I told my buddies they were all getting played when they said it was coming here.  Lots of better fisheries all around, but I guess it’s cool when they go somewhere with tough fishing. And the tiny boat launch with no parking, that was an issue in the regular season event in 2021, several anglers were about 30 minutes late because of the massive backup at the ramp. Honestly the ramp was the main reason I didn’t believe they were coming in ‘19 but they opened up a big fenced in field for parking that was previously closed off

now if they allowed competitors to go way up the rivers  from Knoxville, there would be some big bags of smallies (and maybe a sunken boat or 3)

John Cox looks out of place , casting into open water without three giant screens on his front deck .

I heard there was 20  largemouths in that water , John ought to go after them .

Clunn weighed in a LM on day 1 haha

tyler rivet is dragging a Carolina rig on a baitcaster so someone doesn’t post it’s only drop shots

marc Frazier just boat a 4-5 lber also with Carolina rig

on the contrary, Robertson just let a fish pull drag off his spinning reel forever and ever, then it came off

So far, so good

All three of my guys that made it into today are currently in the top 10...at least on BassTrakk...let's see if they can hang on to the end of the day.

That lake is like 130 miles long and the top ten are fishing within 50 feet of each other ???

And of course during the weigh-in...Leaderboard isn't loading. What's that...the third time this year that's happened?

Finally got the leaderboard to load - and 1, 3, 7...not shabby at all.

Prior to this one, I was at 79%...we'll see how this moves the meter.

Nice to have two local boys finish in the top 10.

Half the catch at LaCrosse next week will be largemouth though. Actually could be more than half. Oahe was all smallmouth if I’m not mistaken.

I agree. That’s not really what I meant in my previous post. I may have misrepresented what I was getting at. The last couple times at LaCrosse it’s been a mix of brown and green bass. I’ve personally never fished that area, but I’ve stayed there for work a couple times and driven through the area. There is so much river backwater area to fish there. Beautiful country too.

Not uncommon for late summer there.
