around my parts, it is almost magical early.  fog layer just floating above the water.  crisp cold air, warm water still.

but my friend always says, "oh when it warms up the fish should get active".    it does make me wonder why i am out so early.  maybe just for the ambiance.

Ambient air temp might rise slight all day but water temps may not rise or fall during that same time period.

I think your doing right closer to first light.

I caught five bass this morning. My car was frosted and my lawn was too. Brrrr! I couldn't discover any pattern at all. A fish here, a fish there. A couple when it was early and cold and a couple when it was later and warmer. In short, the fish won. Tomorrow I'm not going to rise early and fish the frost. I'll let it warm first and fish late morning through early afternoon.

I had a dink fest.

Lots of trophies in training.

I rarely have these kind of trips but these little giys were aggressive and hanging where big Momma usually takes a post.

38 degress right now, hope that brings the plus size fish up.

I assume air temp.  38 degree water temp seems a little cold for Oct 7 in your neck of the woods.

Yes, air temp.

Water temperatures locally are mid 50's mostly.

Saturday is a road trip to scout some small rock dams in north dakota on the maple river and 1 concrete dam that only flows during spring flooding as its a watershed area.

Will bring limited tackle and toss a bit but not expecting much as all water levels are super low.
