Every playoff I've seen today does not have them in the top 4 anymore.  The top four I see are: Georgia, Michigan, TCU, and USC.

 

OSU will be playing in the Rose Bowl, probably against Washington.  If Michigan loses to Purdue in the Big Ten Championship, I think OSU would replace them in the college football playoff and then Michigan would be sent to the Rose Bowl instead.

But if Michigan loses to lowly Purdue, they both have 1 loss. Losing to Purdue is worse than losing to Michigan.

Michigan is a much higher quality team than Purdue. So losing to them does not affect OSU’s rating as much as a loss to Purdue would. It’s simple math. I don’t think the computer takes head to head matchups into account. It is looking at quality of wins and losses. That’s why teams in the SEC are generally higher ranked even if they have more losses.

 

Will probably be a moot point anyways because Michigan is unlikely to lose to Purdue.

if they don’t take head to head matchups into consideration, then why is there a playoff? Does the loser of the championship game deserve to be the champion because the head to head matchup isn’t important?

As far as I can tell, head to head results do not have a bearing on a teams final ranking UNLESS it was in a championship game…like a conference championship. So in other words, if a trophy is on the line, then it matters. For example, if LSU and Georgia were both undefeated or each had 1 loss, the winner of the SEC Championship would have bearing on the selection.  Otherwise it’s simply another game/result on a team’s schedule.

It’s also possible that LSU could leap frog both of them even with 2 losses should they beat Georgia. A 2 loss team has never played in the college football playoff.

It’s looking like Alabama is going to be ranked above Tennessee (I don’t believe it’s official yet) how does this happen considering Tennessee beat Alabama?

LSU has 3 losses now

 

the committee has been known to place teams that lost head to head above the team that beat them. I just think it’s totally ridiculous if they have identical records

Because Alabama’s body of work as a whole is better than Tennessee’s. Which only proves my point that head to head is not a significant factor in this.

 

I’m not saying that I agree or disagree with it, I’m only saying how it is.

Because Tennessee’s 2nd loss is a total domination by South Carolina. Total. Domination. You can’t lose like that and expect to get back in. I relish USC getting demolished if they play UGA.

Tennessee dominated LSU but that didn’t count because it was a head to head matchup

Apparently all that matters is when you lose, earlier the better. Or of course don’t lose 

 

 

Hopefully the committee has some logic deep down and doesn’t allow Ohio state in over michigan. Because we saw who was better Saturday
