Buck Perry deepest water

Featured Replies

Deepest water is the home of the fish

but my question is say the lake is 30 foot deep.

around the point in question, it’s mainly 20 foot deep so still deep, just not in the deepest area. Does this point just get ignored per say since it doesn’t lead to the 30 foot in any formation?

What does the contour look like!

The fish are everywhere and nowhere until you find them, and then that's where they will be, I call it the double gill slit technique, something about a dead catfish...

A point into a gradual spacing at 20 foot so not quickly going to 20 foot

Deep/deepest water requires context. Within that, you have 3 options in any given situation;

The deepest water in the lake.

The deepest water in the area.

The deepest water available.

Evaluate all situations based on those possibilities, knowing that those 3 conditions can overlap.

General statements tend to get scrutinized beyond intent.

Thermoclines can limit the depth bass populates do to low DO levels. The lake could be 100’ deep and the bass suspended at 30’ located on a thermal break.

Buck Perry developed a set of Spoon Plugs to troll at specific depths to determine the depth of the life zone.

Today we short cut this process using sonar to determine the life zone depth then apply that knowledge to locate bass on physical structure breaks. Doing this you are following Buck Perry’s theory fishing where the bass are located in deeper water lieu of fishing blind pounding the shoreline.

If the water was as smooth as glass, Erwin would be more than proud.

The deepest water nearest the useful structure is what BP was talking about. You mentioned 30ft deep. What about lakes that are 100ft deep, 1000ft deep?

@Catt is your friend here. He shouldn't have to pry the information from you. Look up the Structure Fishing channel on youtube. While I don't care for most of the content, he really does a good job going over the basics in his workshop videos. Full disclosure, this guy is/was local to IL and the Midwest and I had it out with him at a fishing show many many years ago. He's not one for taking constructive criticism.

I think we would all thoroughly enjoy hearing the story over something on the rocks

It started on a Chicago fishing forum. I mentioned he is/was local. The Structure Fishing Show was on tv here Saturday mornings. The guy became a member of the forum and asked folks to critique the show. Told the guy if he wants to promote Structure Fishing fine, and If he wants to promote his kid fine, just keep the 2 separate. Others on the site agreed. This guy got all defensive about his kid. I understand that to a point but, there needs to be some separation of the emotions when trying to promote a business.

The tv show lasted one season, if that. Sad too. The instructional videos were good. Just had no desire to listen to a 10 year old

"Deep water is the home of the fish" is basically a catch phrase. They could be feeding anywhere. I was fishing an exceptionally clear lake from shore and spotted a pair of LM slowly cruising the shallows and turning toward the weedy shoreline like they were hunting for something.
