Last year was my first go at it, so it's still evolving.  In the clear water I fish, it became my daylight more subtle large swim jig.  I started catching on a 18-20' flat with sporadic weed clumps and kept it tied on.  I'd chuck it and tightline it to the bottom, then give a quick 1-3 reel turns and tightline that back to the bottom.  Grabbed a couple dragging it over a hard sand bottom as well.  I also found success working downhill on breaks with inconsistent weedline heights, letting it glide then popping it free.  @WRB gave a great tip to use a cps spring w/ a piece of cut trick worm to ride the hookpoint texsposed to help keep it weedless.  Used both the 5/8 and 3/4, gonna try a 1/2oz for the shallower work this year.  No giants, but consistently decent 2-4lb fish, even got a nice walleye.  I liked a longer MH rod, and the bites are unmistakeable.

I found a local guy that custom paints lures and have had him do a few of my favorites and a bunch of different sized Spooks.  They're so pretty when I get them back from him that they just sit in my tackle box for me to admire when I'm reaching for one of their factory painted cousins.  It's not that I worry about loosing them, I just would hate to scratch up the paint job.  I did break out a custom craw colored Little John last week, but cut it off the first time I bounced it off the rip rap I was targeting.  Luckily just the bill was scratched.

I do have a certain need for my plastics to be rigged as perfect as possible, I will rip off a plastic and put a new one on if I mess up on a jig or something with a baitholder on the head

I've mentioned on another thread that I like crappie patterns as they're one of the main forage in my lakes.

Here's my 'collection' - most from Clyde's Cranks....he does a bang-up job though since he paints as orders come it, it takes a bit to get them.

 

Top going clockwise: 110-class jerk, lipless, 1.5 squarebill, 2.5 squarebill, 07 size shad, little deep

Off to the side is a Bucca Baby Gill.

My favorite early spring/bluegill imitating spinnerbait. 1/4 oz. Nichols 33 Mini with a trimmed down Rage Menace. I don't always like a trailer on it tho. It does help with the casting.

Love it. Also imitates a pumpkinseed pretty well.
