Just fixing the grass that the fungus and dog wear killed. The dog yard had fungus on one side (from overspray coming from me hydrangea beds) and dog wear from winter on the other. I just seeded and put blankets down yesterday for that. The pool yard had some fungus but also a lot of digging, enough to take 3-4 wheelbarrows to fill them all. That also got filled, leveled, and seeded yesterday.

  • When we first moved into our place here 2008, we needed clear some land, build a small dog kennel and make the fenced in 'dog yard'. Most of it my hand.  Planted some trees and lots of grass.

  • I got up at 5:30am and stained my deck because it's so freaking humid today.  I finished by 9:30am.   Yesterday I prepped it by power washing it.   Glad this job is done for a coup

  • My wife and I started off with a 12’x12’ patio that lasted about 15-16 years and was still holding strong to replace it with this.

Next week we'll begin clearing out what looks like a war zone.  50 plus downed trees. Our property will never be the same. Well, at least not in my life time.  Expect at least 2-3 weeks of work and plenty of out if pocket expenses.

Stay Safe.

@A-Jay man you guys got walloped. If I was closer I’d load the equipment up and start heading your way. Hopefully you’re able to chase some brownies in between  cleaning up that mess. You deserve a few 7lbers for weathering that storm.

At some point I’ll be staining my deck. No sanding or stripping required. Just a fresh coat after a good cleaning.

Honestly can’t think of anything else that needs to be addressed other than routine seasonal yard and garden work.

Its been very difficult to mentally focus on things since late January so even if I had to do something more major I don’t think I could.

  • Super User

Seems like what I need to do is extremely minor compared to what @Jar11591 went through with a catastrophic injury and what @A-Jay is going through with major damage on his property.

If you guys lived near me I would offer to help. One day at a time. Hang in there.

What’s on the agenda for outdoor projects and gardening this year for y’all?

I have the parts for a five-foot, black powder-coated fence in my backyard. I have to dig 27 post holes, cement the posts, and assemble the fence. It'll have two gates. I'm hopefully finally finishing my Japanese garden, which means spreading some more pebbles and laying a small, slate patio. The garden's still a construction zone, but already beautiful. I made some solid site and plant decisions. I'm also planting a line of high bush blueberries. A single high bush blueberry produces far more blueberries than I care to eat, but I'm planting nine to share with friends and birds. I planted an asparagus bed yesterday, but it won't fully produce until the spring of 2026. I also have started my veggies inside and they're doing well. Oh, yeah, I'll be building a firepit too.

Our raised bed at home had some winter survivors that are  back to growing, kale and broccoli and maybe carrots? Will wait until April is over to put the summer veggies in IMG-1666.jpg

At moms house we made her raised bed into two with a place to walk inbetween , she’s going tomatoes in one and okra in the other

@TnRiver46: Those are good-looking raised beds. I made the mistake of making mine four boards high, as it will be easier to garden without stooping, but lawdy, it took half of forever to fill them...and there are seven of them. So. Much. Dirt. However, they're full now and when I'm 80 in eleven years, I might be glad I made them high.

I probably posted in here somewhere but I filled my one at home up with dirt from down the hill inside my dog fence and it nearly killed me . I was toting it with this massive yellow bucket and once I filled it up with a shovel I couldn’t move it one inch so I had to fill it half full and carry it up the hill a few dozen times. Back spasm city, USA

Honestly, I don't even know where to begin . . .

Several years of time & effort - gone.

Rained Hard over night here.

So I took advantage of the 'softened soil' (relative term)

and put the Drag Rake to work.

Tree removal rigs (Bobcats and Bucket trucks) made really nice deep tire 'tracks'

in what used to be some healthy green grass.

First step is to level the ground.

Done.

I'll start the clod & clump clean up later today & tomorrow.

Looking forward to the 'after' pics.

However, it might be a few years

before any of that action.

@A-Jay that sucks having to basically start from scratch. Are you going to get the stumps ground down or leave them as is?

Fortunately I have the tools, skill & ability to bring it back.

So we'll see how it goes.

Just picked up 'several' bags of seed.

As for the stumps, I'm leaving them.

I need a place to sit down and rest.

Plus Tank likes them

At least I won't be chasing around nearly as many leaves !

Super annoying to have to do it, but it means you have a modern grass varietal and not old K31 (not that you had that anyway).  Also gives plenty of options to level, correct, and do all of the things that lawns need every now and then.  Plus you have power equipment to do it.  And you can't fish yet so...

Gonna take a risk and move some tomato plants out to the garden beds today. A couple weeks before average last frost but they’re 18” tall and there are a dozen of them so we’re out of space inside. Last year we risked moving the seedlings outside early as well, and our gamble paid off as we never got a May frost and we were harvesting by mid June.

Bout time for that first mow of the year as well. Toro fired 3rd rip. Never even got around to draining the gas end of last year. Those machines simply will not fail.

Continuing to work on filling the holes & ruts while leveling the whole deal.

With the first 60 bags down, only 60 more to go.

So lucky to have the best helper.

Good Times.

What are you using to level and fill?

Tow behind drag rake, lawn roller, wheel barrel & hand tools

Along with a good amount of Blood, Sweat and Tears.

And it's Big Fun Too.

We approved an estimate for a Landscaper to Grade & level the 1 acre dog yard.

(too much for this OG)

Includes 20 yds of fill and 15 yds of screened topsoil.

We'll need to re-seed that ourselves when they're done.

He's still a booked out a few weeks so it could be a while.

We're doing what we can while we wait.

Recieved our workload for this weekend.

20 yds of fill and 15 yds of topsoil.

So glad the forecast includes crazy hotness.  OK, not really.
