"Ain't no big bass in the Sabine River"

Knowing nothing about the river, I had to look it up. That's it, 6.81#?

That's gotta be ripe for breaking.  I mean probably not a ton much larger than that but I'd bet a fair number.

Could be bigger bass in there. Some anglers just don't tell anyone about the big fish they caught. Me and a few friends use to fish this park pond years ago. One time we wen there about 8pm during a late spring evening.  A couple of us hooked up to bass that were over 12 lbs, yet none of us ever mentioned that to anyone, mainly for fear the pond would become over run with people, so don't assume that the 6.8 is the biggest bass caught there.

Trying to break that will keep you busy for awhile.

It's a d**n paradox.

My largest smallie was on a 110 whopper plopper that barely touched water.

But this year all my biggest bass (over 3#) have been on a hair jig or a baitfish fly I make.

Both are less than 2" long and deadsticked in current.

Edit - I should mention that I fish rivers 95% of my time and we are still in prespawn, but I did start throwing a DT4 crankbait recently that is getting reaction bites.

If my only goal was to catch Quaility size bass and not quantity, what is your best advice??

my PB is 4lb. 14oz.

are the particular baits and styles or techniques you would recommend??

are there certain times of day or night yih would recommend??

are there certain time of year you would recommend??

in other words if i was trophy hunting, what is your best advice??

Pleasekeep in mind, i fish in PA, NJ, DE freshwater.  if that helps.

Big baits, big bites. Fish the times of the year bigs are most likely - spring and fall. When it warms up fish the night bite.

I have caught more 20 bass over 5 in past year - only 1 wasn't on a swimbait.

Take a guided trip to Texas or Florida. Maybe even the Tennessee river chain.

MY PB came out of the St. Johns river. You Gotta fish where fish of that size live.
