Randy Howell's little secret.

Featured Replies

Yesterday while watching MLF team series in Florida I watched Randy Howell bounce his top water bait off a bridge pylon.

When he brought it in he laughed and said "well my cherper still works"

I had no idea what he was referring to until I saw a picture of the bait with the chirper hanging out.

ANYONEONE seen or hear of this?

What the heck is it?

It was in the bait and apparently makes some sort of sound, however I have never seen such a thing or heard of it.

Livingston is his main sponsor.
He one of the few that gets everything first.
If he wins with that thing it’ll be on every shelf and somebody on here will start a thread on it.

I'm normally a completely anti-gimick person, but this is intriguing.  I haven't found anything suggesting how long the battery lasts yet.  I am surprised at the price.  I know Livingston is usually bargain but I expected higher cost for these.  I would typically wait and let someone be the guinea pig but I may have to try out their frog.  Frogs are very noisy creatures, even when just moving around.  The frog lure could be something.  "My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives."

Livingston had made battery powered lures for years.  The crankbait that Randy won the classic with was one.

I have a couple crankbaits that I've had mixed success with. They are water activated and you can test them by wetting your fingers and touching both hook hangers. The crankbaits I've used have a red light inside that lights up the eyes when it's making sounds as well. I only have experience with the crankbaits, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy them. Even when the battery runs out, they're still a solid bait.

This isn’t new. Livingston has been doing this for years on the musky side.
