Night time fishfinder question

Featured Replies

So as I start my night fishing adventures that I have previously posted. I have a question about the nighttime fishfinder screen. Should there be a setting where the screen goes to night time where it’s not so bright on your eyes so you can see better at night? Does this question make sense? If not, any suggestions for using your fishfinder to locate Bass?

May not be an exact "night time" setting, but nearly all of them have a screen light intensity adjustment ("brightness") that can be lowered for night time fishing and then raised for day time trips. Look in your manual if you still have it for this setting adjustment, or find a copy online (most companies put theirs on their website).

They differ by brands.  Like stated check your manual.  You can also get some translucent red see through plastic and reduce the glare.

On my HELIX units:

To adjust the backlight, press the POWER key.

This will pull up the Express Menu Cursor down one time to Light.

Using the right or left Cursor button, press until you have reached the desired setting.  Left dims the setting and right increases the setting.

Night model is also available on this menu.

After pressing the POWER key and the Express Menu appears,

cursor down two times to Night Mode.

This setting can be turned On or Off.

On is selected by the right cursor, Off is selected by the left cursor.

If turned On, It automatically adjusts the setting to 6.

You can turn it to off and it automatically returns the settings to 10.

6 is almost always too bright for night ops for me.

Something in the 3 or 4 range works better.

And if I'm not actively using it, I put the unit(s) on standby.

My Garmin goes to "black mode" once it get low light automatically, but then once it gets pitch black, I go into the setting, and lower the brightness down to 20%.

At night I run my Solix on Night mode with the back light at 1.

Lowrance units (at least the ones I have and have had) dim by pressing the power key.  You can either press the power key multiple times to bring down the brightness, or press the power key once to bring up a menu that had a "brightness" setting.  It's also got a night mode that's really red.  I prefer it dimmed a bunch but not put into night mode.  None of my have an automatic dimming setting.

Seems touching the power button to bring up the brightness in the menu is pretty common accross the brands. My garmins work the same way. 30% works well for me at night.
