So I have an slx xt that’s geary that I could get repaired, but I could also just sell that reel and buy a tatula(not sure which model, would be up to recommendations), or I could get a curado. Does anyone have suggestions to which I should get? Would be looking for mainly all purpose use since I do not have many super technique specific combos and I am still new. I am leaning towards a tatula right now because I had trouble with my shimano. 

Tatula 150.

I would take a look at the new Daiwa Tatula 100 7:1:1, it would be a good reel ratio for a variety of lures.

Why 150 over 100

Get the SV, especially if your new to casting reels, it’s all around much more forgiving and easier to control. Read up on how to set the tension control.

I’m in the Tatula 100 camp. I own several Daiwa’s  including a CT Type R to a Tatula 80 and a Tatula 100 and I will say the Tatula 100 is the most versatile. I will add I don’t know how or why your SLX got geary but I will say my Tat 100 is a awesome reel 😉

Might go for the sv in the 100 size. Looking at one on ebay rn

Because it's the more versatile of the two, IMO, and for whatever reason I find it to be the best all-around caster of the Tatula line. Maybe it's the 150's 28mm wide spool? Little things make a difference. The new '23 Tatula 100 left-handed models just came out, so I don't have an opinion on it. While the earliest promo vids from Daiwa claim it does, nothing printed in its description on any sellers sites confirm that this is in fact true. Interesting. I mean it’s not my only reel I have a tatula 80, lews lfs, older cheap abu garcia for my braid and then the slx. So you think I should go for a bigger reel?

Even the 103 one? Maybe I will get 150 then, my current reels are tatula 80, lews lfs, an abu Garcia and the slx xt. Maybe the 150 would be better so I can throw my bigger lures, that’s what I currently use the lfs for 

I have a couple of Tatula 100s and like them.  I'm not very discerning but they cast fine and are quiet.  I fish a buzzbait on one and an underspin on the other with mono.

Even the 103 one? Maybe I will get 150 then, my current reels are tatula 80, lews lfs, an abu Garcia and the slx xt. Maybe the 150 would be better so I can throw my bigger lures, that’s what I currently use the lfs for 

 ZILLION SVTW and TATULA SVTW all the way.  I have a boat full of them, and won't buy anything else.  I used to be a Shimano guy.

Not sure which one would be good, I’m a Lews guy. The KVD reel a is a good one. Just saying….🤔

I have my lews lfs, it’s decent 

I have quite a few Shimanos and a LOT of Daiwas.

 

What I have learned from them is the Shimanos win for moving baits where I am making long casts. Cranks, swim jigs, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits,... Etc.

 

Daiwas excel for anything structure and cover related where the added cast control helps. Pitching, flipping, skipping, or just casting from a bunch of different angles in and around trees.

 

Either are good and can obviously be used in either circumstance, but that is their general roles in my arsenal. For the most parts, the jigs and texas rigs, squarebills, flukes, weightless plastics, or anything else I am working around cover are on Daiwas. All other moving baits or things like carolana rigs or footbal jigs where I'm casting for distance is on Shimanos.

 

I personally like the 100-150 size, but have a few larger reels like older Curado 200 and Daiwa Elites and a couple Catalinas.

Nice price, but appears to be shipping from Japan (and appears to be ended). I have bought some new stuff from places in Japan like Asian Fishing Portal and Digitake, but have never felt comfortable buying used from over there.

 

I've bought used from multiple U.S. sellers on Ebay, and had mixed results. Some have been really nice and others have been a little.... meh!!

 

I've had more consistent luck buying used from places like American Legacy Fishing, and right now they are offering an additional 20% off used rods and reels. They rate the condition pretty accurately in my opinion. The flea market on here is another option for used stuff.

Honestly, you can't go wrong with either. I have just about every variety of Curado and I like them all. I've been looking at adding a Tatula or two to my arsenal, but other purchases got in the way on Black Friday.

 

You can't make a bad choice here.

I have a few of the Tatula SV reels also, they get the job done.

I use my 8.1 Fuego for frogs and buzzbaits. For buzzbaits it makes the bait get on top faster and for frogs it gets the bait back to the boat fast so I can cast again. 

 

I don't like it for anything else except maybe a rattle trap.

Ok I’ll cancel for a 7 then. I was thinking 8 was too fast for most applications. Should I look to twtula 100, 150, ct, or sv?
