We sent to cabelas the other day and there was some bass (ish) fish in the tank. I can’t figure out what they are.

Some of them, but not all have bulging eyes. there was a largemouth in with them that I would guess to been 5+ Lbs. So these would have been 8-10lbs I’d guess.

The jaw did not go past the eye. I did the best I could getting pics. But I n ow the pics ain’t great.

Fixed pics, I forgot I have to use direct link here.

My boy loved it as much as I did!

@Bazoo That’s awesome your son enjoyed it as much as you 😃 When I took my daughter and son 🤔forgot how many years ago but they were young, my son was more excited about the escalator than the fish tank….should have known then and there it wasn’t in them 🤣😂😆

Probably a hybrid striper that’s washed out from being in the tank. Could be an actual striper as well that’s a little discolored and misshaped by the captivity but I’d bet on hybrid.

Thanks for all the replies. I've never caught, nor am I familiar with hybrid bass, so I appreciate the information. It was interesting to watch their schooling behavior.

That's a wiper for sure. The bulging eyes are probably a result of an infection or running into the glass too many times. They're a very nomadic fish so keeping them in an aquarium is pretty hard on them. When I worked at Cabela's it was really difficult to keep them alive.
