Hello - 

I am looking to potentially purchase a Shimano Miravel reel for finesse fishing (and potentially some Crappie fishing if the ice out here in MN ends up being earlier than usual and prior to bass season). I have looked on Digitaka and the price at this point for the Miravel is about $97.

There are three sizes at this price (1000, C2000S, C2000SHG) and I am looking for feedback on which of theses three models would best serve me for finesse/light baits/lure applications.

At this point it most likely would be paried with a St. Croix Mojo Bass (6'10"ML/XF) although I am considering purchasing a rod that can toss lighter lures/baits (1/32-1/4) such as the Okuma Celilo 662 UL or EverGreen Combat Stick Gizmo Special (now $112 at TW).

I run a 1000 on my Mojo 610 MLXF for Ned, Dropshot, Neko...the 26"IPT seems about perfect for the application. The difference between the 2000S and the 2000SHG is retrieve speed, with the HG being a 6:1 ratio and coming in at 31" IPT - note that the 2000's are shallow spool and hold less than half the line as the 1000.

If you're not casting under overhangs or other tight spaces - I'd recommend the 762 to get some distance....that's the UL rod I use for panfishing or hair jigs for bass.

I’m going to say that the 2000 sized body is going to better balance the rod. A 1000 is light. I just went through this with a stradic. I got a 1000 for the same uses and put it on a 6’9” zodias ML.  The setup was tip heavy and that was on a quite light rod. The 1000 size is barely over 6 oz.  The extra ounce or so for the next size up helps balance and you don’t notice it in hand. 

If by finesse you mean neds and small swimbaits etc. on 6lb or 8lb. line I'd go with the 2500.

 

If the JDM sizing for the Miravel is like the sizing for the Vanford, the 1000 has a small body and small spool, the 2000 a small body and a larger spool and the 2500 (completely different) a medium body and medium spool.  I have both the 1000 size and the 2000 size in the Vanford.  I use the 1000 size for crappie on an ultralight 5' 6'' very soft rod  for very light lures and the 2000 size for crappie and small bass on a 7 foot soft moderate action rod for lure between 1/32 and 1/8 oz.  I think you would be better off with a 2000 size for the two applications you mentionned since you talk about 1/4 oz lures which is heavy for me.

Good advice so far. Another point to consider is the spool size. The larger diameter spool provides longer casting distance. So a 200 series will be heavier (better balance) and better casting distance. Ideally having the rod in hand & trying each reel for balance will help your decision.

I'm a C2000S fan, like the lower gearing than available in USM import.  

Spool capacity is just right.  

This is Vanquish, but will be this same size and spool.  

I also have JDM Stradic in 1000 and C2000SHG (latter is same spool and gearing as USM 1000).  Both great reels, but this is finesse.

I have not ever used a light/ultralight rod and lures that are super light (1/32, 1/16, 3/32, 1/8). The Miravel appears to be a good reel to pair with a light/ultra light rod/super light lures. 

I will keep my eye on Digitaka and the exchange rate. 

@WaskaCrank12 Japan Lure Shop currently has the Miravel C2000S at 11,400 yen/$76.35 and although you will pay for tax and shipping the cost is offset with the added lure they throw in for purchasing. I bought a Stradic late last year and they sent a Megabass baby pop-x with my purchase which is a $15.00 lure here $12.00 from Japan. The site is very easy to use and the standard shipping gets it here well within reasonable time limits. I paid 2000 yen/$13.40 for shipping btw.

I put a 2500 on my new Victory 6'10" ML/EF. Absolutely love it. Great balance and feel.

At the current price I’m seriously considering buying a 2000 or 2500 myself 😬

I ended up ordering the Shimano Miravel C2000S thru Japan Lure Shop -- even with shipping it was close to $15 less than other sites at the time I ordered it (and they sent along a Jackall lure as a gift). I also purchased a Piscifun Carbon X ll - 1000 reel. I was able to get a deep discount on it and it weights in at 5.5oz.

My thought is that I will pair the Piscifun with the new Okuma Celilo 762 UL rod I purchased -- and pair the Miravel C2000S with the St. Croix Mojo Bass (6'10" ML/XF) rod I have -- and look to use both for some crappie/panfishing if the lakes are ice free in April (bass fishing here in MN does not start until May 11th this year).

@WaskaCrank12 I have 3 of the original Piscifun Carbon X reels myself, 1 is a 2000 size I use on a 7’2” medium power rod and 2 are the 1000 size. I paired my 2 1000’s with Bass Pro Shop Panfish Elite rods in 6’-8” ultralight and a 7’-2” light powered rod and couldn’t be happier. I’m curious as to how much bigger you feel the Miravel body is🤔as I’m still debating grabbing a 2500 shallow spool for my 7’-1” medium light rod.

I am happy to hear you have had a positive experience with the Piscifun reels !  This is the first one I have purchased - I look forward to the opportunity to use it, hopefully in April.

As for the size difference between the Carbon X ll 1000 and the Miravel C2000S - I held them in my hands and looked at them and the Miravel is slightly larger all around and about an ounce heavier (5.5 oz to 6.3oz). There may be a larger size/weight differential if you are looking to purchase a 2500 version of the Miravel - it might be closer to your 2000 size Carbon X ???

Part of my purchasing decision/choosing these reels was that I wanted the versatility to use them on two different rods (Okuma Celilo 762 UL and St. Croix Mojo Bass 6'10" ML/XF). I put each of these reels on those rods (just in the garage, no line or lures on them) and beleive there will be no issues using either reel on either one of those rods, but only time on the water this summer will let me know if I am correct or not.

 

 

 

I suspect you will find the Miravel worm-drive and shallow spool excels fishing light braid.  

I would treat the deeper Carbon X spool as light fluoro/mono.  

 

Part of the size and weight difference may be worm- vs locomotive-drive (guess), Shimano is going to have stiffness targets in their frame and rotor to get that good line management, etc.

Hey I know this is an old post but I’m trying to figure out if the 2000s will hold enough 10 lb braid for bass fishing. How much did yours hold with the braid you used?

According to the stats - the 2000s will hold 150m of .6 PE...which translates to 164yds of 12# braid (832, Smackdown, etc)

 

So yes, it'll hold enough line.

 

Why I went with the 2500s over the 2000s is the IPT rate. The 2000s pulls line in at 25" per turn of the handle when the spool is nearly full....more line out, the lower that rate gets. The 2500s raises that to almost 29" per turn of the handle...much more attuned to bass fishing IMHO.

I wound up buying a 2000 shallow spool Miravel that is paired with a 6’-8” ultralight rod and had 8 pound Daiwa J-Grand X8 braid. Notice I said “had” as it now has 6 pound Suffix 832 which I haven’t tried out yet. The reason for the switch was using a 1/16th ounce road runner head and a crappie tube for a body I was getting to the end of the spool on long casts which is what I need to get past the weeds that exist in the ponds I fish. I’m not sure how long your casts need to be but for me there was no way to utilize the 2000S on my 7’-1” med light rod as planned which instead received a BPS Johnny Morris Platinum Series 2000 with the aforementioned 8 pound braid. I’m going to add that my Miravel 2000S states 105 yards of 4 pound USA Power Pro braid, no disrespect intended to @MN Fisher.

Longer casts than that and heavier weights. So I guess I need the regular 2500 then. Just thought I could save a little weight with the 2000 size.

Ok I saw the power pro like capacities. I will just go for a 2500. I wanted something slightly smaller than my 2500 stradic. But isn’t it weird that Shimano is saying power pro has the same diameter as mono then?
