The calendar doesn’t say fall until sept 22…….

my wife dabbles in witchcraft so I know these things

She is in my coven. Oh, the spells we cast!

Seriously, it's fall here. Lots of trees are red and it's dipping into the high forties at night.

I need to add to my last post about the current "season".  I really get a kick out of watching others fish.  Saturday (August 31) many were fishing primary points, drop offs and channel swings.  The calendar switches to September and all of a sudden there's a BUNCH of boats running way up the creek channels.   It's like the calendar tells them where to fish.   FWIW I'm still seeing Bass on channel swings, secondary points and the mouths of creeks.

After all my worrying and fretting about what to throw, I went out to Falls of the Neuse today and hooked a chatterbait fish first cast.  The rain we're getting were pushing them shallower and making them pretty aggressive.  I only had 15 mins to fish and I ended up catching a nice sized fish and losing a big one.

I'd follow those sheep up the channel to shear them. I could use their wool going into winter.

fall in NC is when I have to break out my heated vest for hunting and have to strip 3 layers by late morning hunt.

As for the fishing...still summer pattern. I dont know if they spawned twice but I saw some fresh beds and now there are bluegill guarding in those beds as of last weekend.

I'm checking trail cameras and shiver when I get on plane, like this time of year.

I noticed this too...

All my fluke fish have been way shallow (2-3 feet) so I was wondering if they were staging again or not

Water changes seasons slower than the sky.  Here in Oklahoma, the fall doesn't start until usually around the second week of October.  Once the night time lows consistently hit in the 50's, the fall bass fishing season begins.  Usually around the same time the first leaves begin to change.

We’re in the “In between”. We’re In between summer and fall but it isn’t really either one. September is historically the worst month of the year for me that isn’t the winter months. The fish are scattered everywhere and heavily pressured, baitfish are plentiful, lakes start to turn, it’s rough.

Regarding a 2nd spawn,  There's been studies showing that it takes Largemouth, and Smallmouth Bass 11 months to develop eggs, after spawning.  I've been "told" that Spotted Bass sometimes spawn 2 times a year.   I can't find any information on this that I consider reliable.   I've caught some Spots recently that appeared to be full of eggs.

Here in NC Bluegill spawn pretty much all Summer.  I've been seeing Bluegill on beds since April.  I've also been catching Bass that are feeding on these bedding 'Gills.   I don't know, and can't find any information I consider reliable regarding if the same Bluegills spawn over and over, or if it's different groups of fish.

Can you link those studies?  I've always been interested in bass spawning habits.  The only reason I would ask about a second spawn is that Bama Bass on YouTube carefully chronicled the growth rates of the Largemouth in his pond and found a brood of young bass that were physically too large to have been hatched that spring.  He then deduced that they had been born in the fall and had spent the winter eating and stuff.  I can't remember which video it is but I'll try to find it.

I'll try to find the stuff I read a while back.   I can't find anything definitive about Spotted Bass though.

I caught 25 this fall morning. The pickerel rush and cabbage are brown. So are the reeds. The shorelines are brown, brown, brown and there are more and more bright red maple leaves.
