If you wanted to get a glide bait and could only afford one which would you choose? Why? Does anyone have any good experiences with these? Thanks.

I'd get a DRT Klash 9 and thank Pat later when you catch a new PB!  

 

Why?  It does everything and it flat out catches the crap out of big fish for everyone I know that tosses one.

 

They can float or dive or sink or suspend etc etc 

 

Best bait of its kind for the money out there probably.

Hi Float or Low Float?

Heard alot of good things about the Chad Shad along with the DRT Klash.

But thats too rich for my blood, so i just throw the 13 Fishing Glidesdales when i want to target big bass. Sadly i got into 13 Fishing baits at the end....

 

Now that they arent made anymore ive been thinking alot about the Chad Shads, even though its about 4-5 times what i paid for the glides im using now, ive seen many big bass caught on them.

The hi float can be weighted to do near anything the low float would do I would assume.

@MediumMouthBass I have tried both the Chad Shad and a few of 13 Fishing's versions and so far I have had no luck but I may not have given them enough time on the water just yet.  I have had better luck with the Deps Slide Swimmer 175 but again, I have only fished it sparingly. I did catch a few on it though.  I was able to pick two of them up at a JDM site for around $60 each.

Deps 175 Crappie is good with dark head and tail few other glides have. BB phantom Shad works.

The chad shad has been my most successful glidebait for numbers.  I weight it for a super slow sink depending on water temps, and get most bites on a chop/pause style retrieve.  Killer full moon bait.  I think it's worth owning.

Lo Float DRT tiny klash (although k9 is cool OP seems to be in the 2 oz range) if you can get your hands on one.  Hi Float is a very different bait.

Deps 175 can be easily found under 70$

6" Bucca Trick Shad is getting a lot of love too.  Still frozen up here but dudes I trust like it.

But your original baits are great too.  I'm just adding to your list.  Go on a YouTube or Universe deep dive and you'll learn all about them and how they fit your area and style.

I really want to get into glides but my heaviest rod is a Dobyn’s champion extreme 745 and is only rated up to 1-1/2oz. Seems like glides are all 2oz and up. Not sure if it’s worth getting a dedicated glide rod or not. What do you all use for glides?

I’ve fished the Chad shad on a 755/735. I don’t think you need any new gear till the next size up glide if you’re willing to lob cast.

Well thank goodness. I definitely didn’t want to get a new rod and reel. 😂

I am.  It's not ideal and have only done it twice when I didn't load a more appropriate combo on the boat.  And I babied every cast with it.  I think I caught a couple on the champ if I'm remembering it correctly.  I frequently abuse the weight rating on the champ 735, it has a lot of power in the mid/butt and feel the same way about the 755.  But it's not the ideal rod.  Most of the time I keep it tied on a MC Days 702X with a Tat 200 and definitely prefer fishing it with this set up.  This rod is @$140 but shipping can push it toward $175 all in with most vendors.

A rod with max ratings of 1 1/2oz is very limited for glides and swimbaits, you will be overloading the rod constantly. Resulting in poor casting, and then how long will it last before breaking from the stress? If you cant afford another rod just for them i understand, there was no way i was buying several $150 rods for baits i would only throw seasonally.

So i bought a Daiwa Beefstick (one of the nicest looking rods i own, wish they made one meant for bass) for $40 on sale. Ratings 1/2-4oz, very bendy rod works good for treble hooked baits.

And also got an Ugly Stik Tiger rod that goes up to 6oz for $50, along with a Berkley Big Game rod for $20 thats rated from 1/2-3oz. These 2 work great for jig hooks.

All rods i bought are labeled catfish, steelhead/salmon, and striped bass rods, hence the lower price.

 

I would highly suggest getting a bigger bait rod for well, bigger baits (if thats something you really want to get into).You can do so without breaking the bank, as so many dont realize.

Chad shad and Chimera shad are both excellent glide baits. Can’t go wrong with either.

Chad shad You can never go wrong with it, Imagine every single time it gets tough, I deploy it and BAM. Do yourself a favor and get one same color of your lake forage. I have five and each time I have money I am buying more and add. 

I have Original ones also but I am not using them 🤣
