Can Strike King Plastics Stiffen Over Time?

Featured Replies

I have a pack of Rage Toads from a few years ago I found and the action on the legs doesn't look very good. Could the baits have gotten stiff from sitting too long?

I use quite a bit of SK plastics.

Mostly Rage stuff and zero of that stretchy foolishness.

Never has a problem with age related stiffness.

Wish I could say the same for my lower back.

I feel that, I gotta bad back too, luckily I have a good chiropractor. Looks good with a jerk every second, stays right at/under the surface. I just ordered some SK Super Toads for sale on Amazon, they have little paddle feet. Also have a couple Booyah pad crashers. If you guys have any recommendations for good frogs please chime in. The Spro frog looks good.

Dean Rojas spoiled me on frogs back in the day. I won't fish anything but a Spro Bronzeye and consider it the gold standard of frogs.

My buddy is addicted to the Choppo, bout all he throws anymore. I want something without trebles so I can throw it in the slop

Back when I was sponsored by SPRO, the big complaint on the frogs was that the rubber was too stiff.  To soften it up we used to put them on the trucks dashboard.  Likewise, we used strips of rabbit fur in place of the skirt material for legs and we would stuff the bodies with worm rattles.  I had a big bag of tricks for frog fishing.  😆

I boil them for 30 seconds.

Have you guys tried the Lake Fork trailer hooks?|

I have not. But I would think it might defeat your stated intention of having something to throw in the slop.

I'm a big fan of the bronze eye frog. Just caught my biggest frog fish of 9 lb. 3 oz on the 65!

I've caught a lot of fish in the 6 to 8 lb range on the popping frog.

You really can't go wrong with any of their colors, but I'm a big fan of freak and tropical white and the clear bait fish colors.

Never have had a problem with SK Or Rage. Pop them in boil water for about 30 seconds

Boiled the frog legs, haha, and they're really soft now. I haven't used these much but remember they would kick on top with a steady retrieve and didn't seem to be doing that as well. But my plan for using them is to just twitch right at/below the surface like a frog, should be productive

It works well to straighten fluke tails too

I have a pretty good method for doing that on the boat. Take your crooked flukes and lay them on their back on the deck of the boat in the sun while you fish. The sun will warm them and make them pliable enough to go back to their original shape. If there's no sun well you should be fishing a bait with more vibration anyway. 😂

Hit one of the ponds earlier with the Rage Toad and a Senko. The toad is awesome because it's highly bouyant, more bouyant than a Rage Craw, even though it weighs more. So it can be twitched every second or so like a frog under the surface, or can be steadily retrieved on the surface for an awesome chop. And it's highly weedless with a 5/0 ewg hook. I actually used a 5/0 RB hook and just used a sharp knife to cut a slice in the line on the belly for better hookups. Have not caught anything on it yet but sure I will. I've read if you miss a topwater strike that following up with a Senko will often get bit. Caught my first Senko fish today, I think I'm figuring out how they work and how to use them. Only reason I would take a Senko over a Roboworm is it's heavier and cast better. But think I'll love both

How do you like the rage toad compared to the zoom horny toad? Or have you never tried the zoom?

12-year old me is really having a battle with 50-year old me right now.

I use both, the rage toad is more aggressive and makes more surface disturbance. It's bigger in all aspects, the legs and the body, which naturally means it's heavier too, making it cast better.

I have not tried the Horny Toad, but have watched a tacticalbassin video showing the differences in various toads/frogs. I really like the Rage Toad, even though I've yet to catch anything with, but I've barely used it. It can be swam slowly on top, quickly on top for a ton of chop, and one way a lot if people might not use it, twitch it under the surface. It's very bouyant and takes a while to get down. Another use could be letting it sink a while then work it through thr water column. I'm keeping it tied on until I catch fish on it

Oh yeah, it's highly weedless. Just make sure to rig it right like in the video above. You want a downward bow in the back, not upward. This will help it to stay upright on retrieve. A lot of reviews say they use weighted hooks, I would stick with just a hook, though the weighted hooks might still work well
