registration sticker peeling

I had heard a rumor that the new watercraft registration stickers this year were junk and many of them were peeling off.

Of course, mine is starting to do that.  I put it on in March.

Any ideas on this?  The other side is ok for now but this one seems to be peeling off and I think eventually the whole thing will come off.

Only thing I can think of is get a can of Rustoleum Clear Acrylic spray and lock it down with that....otherwise I'm lost.

Keep the tattered remnants in your glove box and call it a day.  If the new stickers are junk, the wardens will know.  YMMV, but in my experience the evidence of the junky sticker is all the proof you'll need.

When I moved to Montana, the drivers license information would rub off the ID.  The MDVs response was "use a sharpie and write the data on the back."  Also, I can't remember what state it was, but it used to be somewhat common to see license plates that were straight galvanized because all the paint flaked off.

A couple of strips of good quality (gorilla or 3m) clear packing tape, maybe?

I’ve used Gorilla silicone sealant @gim when I’ve had similar sticker issues. Just have to monitor how the edge holds while the silicone sets up. I also discovered over the years if you remove the old registration stickers, clean the area, then apply the new stickers it minimizes this problem.

I posted this in an similar thread last August:

To add: my registration numbers are staying on perfectly. The registration decal from the state? I almost lost them lol. I covered them with Gorilla transparent tape. Still looks good and now secure.

It’s now 9 months later and no issues.

I would love to have a way to get the old ones off.  They seem to bond structurally with the boat.  I do the three year registration so I'll have fewer decals on the boat.

Goo gone works for adhesive stickers.  At least it has in the past for me on an aluminum boat.

I seem to have the exact opposite issue this time.  Can't make it stick anymore lol

Use a hair dryer. But NOT a heat gun!

Call them. A few years ago I put my new VA stickers on the boat and the printing smeared off when I pressed down on them. They said it was a bad batch and mailed me a new set.

That’s worth a try. I will do that.

We've had great success using WD-40 to get sticky residue off. Can't say we've tried it on painted surfaces though.
