Berkley 10 inch power worms hook

Featured Replies

Any one have a recommended hook for these worms? I was fishing 6/0 ewg hooks for the 7 inch zoom magnum worm. They worked good. Just wanted to hear some opinions. I’ll be fishing some heavy pads and dragging it across the top and letting it fall through in the holes. Had great success with the magnums at the lake last week but burned through them all. Headed out Friday so I my next best bet was the Berkeley worms which I read about on here. Couldn’t get the magnums delivered before Friday unfortunately

The 10 inch Power worm isn't super meaty, so depending on that type/brand of EWG hook used, 5/0 or 6/0 should be good.  Btw, when that worm first came out, I was buying 100 count bags of the black and the blue fleck.  Stupid good.  Pretty sure I still have some too however I am slightly embarrassed to admit how old they are.

Good Luck

Thanks AJ! I was actually using heavy duty 6/0 as well as the swim bait ones with the screw top. I didn’t think the Berkley looked as meaty but couldn’t tell if I was wrong!

I've fished the 10" power worm T-rigged with a 3/16th or 1/4 oz weight on a 5/0 Gamakatsu Round bend worm hook. I usually bite my worms down though, the 7" is usually 6" and the 10" is 8.5-9". Dunno why I bite'em down but I feel the hook matches the size/length better.  Love the stank of a fresh bag of power worms,

I did buy some 3/16 weights as well! I did see people mentioning these style hooks but haven’t done a deep dive yet. I’ve always used ewg but am always open to new setups. What makes you prefer these ?

Spearpoint offset EWG 5/0. If you hang one on a spearpoint he aint comin off.

5/0 Trokar TK130

Not necessarily for that specific worm but for others of approximately the same size

Could not agree more on the blue fleck power worm! Fished them a ton back in the 1990's and early 2000's when living in Missouri.

Kind of got away from them for a few years...then "re-discovered" recently.

For the 10" PW's, I use a 5/0 or even a 4/0 EWG Gama hook.

I also go with a straight shank either 4/0 or 5/0 on these.

5/0 offset round bend worm hook with most of my big worms (over 6").

Just wanna say this specific worm is in my top 5 all time baits. I love fishing these post spawn and through the summer. The 10" black specifically. Usually just a 1/4oz t-rig unpegged.

Jsher,

I find when I do it right, The hook set is almost always through the top of the nose. I have used EWG hooks in a lot of my weightless presentations but for T-rigged worms the round bend hook just does a better job of securely hooking the fish. I like the round bend because it is that right thickness. it isn't like a 3x strong and it is heavier then a light wire hook. I'd love to see Gamakatsu do these in the Nano alpha coating.  They have the cover shot hooks that are coats but the bait keeper on them doesn't thrill me.

Best,

FM
