Bass Pro The Egg Wake

Featured Replies

I know some folks on here like the egg crank/wake by bass pro.  I’ve never seen one in person, but know they have some love. Anyway, was in my local BPS today and noticed they had some “egg wake” on the peg. 2.5”, 3/4 oz, surface to 1’ running depth. Not sure if this is the same “the egg” from a few years back as this was packaged in the new XPS black packaging. Anyway, I bought one. My BPS has a lake in front, so I tied it on and casted out a few times. I went back inside and bought the other 4 colors. $6 ea. American Shad, Chart Sexy Shad, Ghost Shad, Bone, Red Craw are the 5 colors in stock at my local BPS.  Will probably go buy some more. They are not online or in the app. Scanning by barcode or by searching brings up zero results.

So, if you’re one of those that like the egg, check your local BPS. If you’re one that likes the egg and you don’t have a local BPS, DM me. I’d be glad to ship some y’all’s way.

I've got a few in the original packaging before they went discontinued.  Even got a couple from the bargain bin.  The original MSRP was $4.99 which was a steal.

It's the closest version that exists to the Storm Subwart, which was discontinued many years ago after Rapala bought them.

One of my fav Wakebaits. Just caught 7-8 fish on one Sunday. I found some like you in the new packaging at the Bass Pro in Mobile, AL back in March. Grabbed 3 of em. I got a reserve of about 15 of them in both sizes in the old stockpile…… buried somewhere in all my excess tackle in the garage. 😂

I bought them in every color they had when they came out years ago. I still have a couple. I bought some newer ones but I haven't had a chance to test them against the old ones yet.

The Egg definitely catches 'em.  Never had the old ones, but customer reviews on the new one say the old was a little smaller and had more colors;  most preferred the old.  They are made in China, so get them while you can.

I think I’m going to go back today and buy the rest. I’ve been practicing on my airbrushing skills…

With the older version, they had 2 sizes: 2” at 1/2 oz and 2.5” at 3/4 oz. I have some of both in my stockpile hidden somewhere. The smaller one fishes more like a Baby 1-, very erratic with good hunting action. The bigger one is louder but still fishes great. Caught a bunch of fish on the big one this past Sunday.

With the new version in the new packaging, I’ve only seen the bigger sized. And the color schemes look different. Weird thing is I can’t find them online. Only saw them in that Mobile, AL store.

Yeah Dean - only one size. They aren’t online anywhere and the guy at BPS didn’t know anything about them. The don’t scan in the app nor do they show up on the website or app when searched. I do wish they had the smaller one as well, but the bigger one fishes good, so be it…

Where’s the pictures?

I went back and bought 20. 4 of each color. A kid and his grandpa at the checkout were commenting about it and I figured of the 5 colors, American Shad was the best all around for here, so I walked out with only 19 of the 20. I could really use some karma!  Anyway, here are the pics as requested.

Top to bottom:

Chart Sexy Shad

American Shad

Ghost Shad

Bone

Red Craw

Those would be killer on bull redfish in the GOA.. swap out the trebles for single hooks. Apparently they’re pretty killer for multi species.

Thanks for the pics..

I have four of the old ones left,  They're heavy enough to fish in the wind and they're deadly when you fish them around submerged vegetation.

Kevin, I think your tackle addiction may surpass even mine. 😂 It’s a good thing we aren’t neighbors or there would be a lotta back & forth enabling going on. 🤣

Aren't they very similar to the KVD 2.5 wake

I only have (1) in gizzard shad and have grown fond of it.

Thanks to this thread, I busted mine out and caught a few this morning.  I love how it wakes immediately upon retrieve.  Other wakebaits require that you hold tip up and coax the bait up, not the Egg.

Yeah, similar but some subtle differences. I fish the KVD wake also & it’s a good bait. But The Egg (bigger size) has a deeper, louder rattle & makes a little more commotion. I really like using The Egg on super windy, overcast days due to its loudness. Plus it casts like a bullet, even into the wind.

But on Sunday, my buddy was throwing a KVD wake while I was throwing The Egg. My buddy only got a couple bites while I was killing em. And it was only lightly breezy, but for some reason they wanted the Egg. 🤷‍♂️

Figured I’d give an update. Took one of my eggs out to Guntersville this am. The good? Nice top water blowup on 2nd cast. 3.4lb, 18.5”.  The bad? The hooks are sharp. Got caught in grass, ripped it free and I immediately had a 3/4oz bullet heading right back at me at like Mach 28 or something. Imbedded in my shin. 2 options. Option 1) keep pushing hook, clip barb, replace hook. Option 2) yank out with pliers.

I had been on the water for like 15 mins. I chose option 2. (I also don’t carry replacement trebles with me and I didn’t want to stop fishing the egg just yet).

Dang, I love wake baits but somehow missed the train on this one.  I'll have to check the local Cabela's to see if there's any left.

I was in Chattanooga last weekend and they had them for $4.99/ea.

I went back and bought 5 more yesterday. I bought more yesterday because I keep giving these away. I gave 2 more away yesterday to a young kid I umpire in baseball.

Never heard of these things.

Fish them mostly in the mornings/evenings?

Anytime a wake would be fished really. Caught mine the other morning at around 9 am…
