help me find a ball head hook/jig that is huge.

I have a supply of Magdraft Freestyle in the 6".   I just dont feel the love from rigging it up with a weighted Beast-Hook.  I gets smashed only to be left feeling the limp line of a missed hooksnag.  it is fairly snag free this way tho.  but it applies to the fish as well for me.  snag free.

I was thinking of pulling a play from the ocean guys.   just rigging it up on a lead head jig and let the hook come out the top predominantly.   I get 90% hook up with the Daingerous so I know the hook fully exposed works.

anyone know of a 1/2oz ball head, with a 8/0 hook that I can rig on a 6" Freestyle magdraft?

Pull the weedguard out if you want open hook.

We used the larger sizes in Mexico.

Very stout and High Quality.

You can still use the weighted hook you are using now in the manner you describe.  Just shove it up in the belly more to where the hook is exposed out the top.  The belly weight is going to help the bait fall more evenly.  If you need a little extra space, use any razorblade to cut a slot in the belly for the weight on the weighted hook to ride in.  You could even superglue it up in there if you feel it necessary.  Belly weight > lead head imho.

If you have to have a lead head, AJ is spot on with his recommendation.

You might contact Seibert outdoors or cadman.  One of them might have something.

war baits is 2oz!  or 1.5.

I'm not sure if you'd need a 8/0 jig hook.

From what l've heard a 6/0 hook works well if you cut the freestyle right through the middle of the eyes. This way it also seats the jighead better.

Ive heard good things about the Yum Scottsboro head, the diezel jighead, and some of the Bladerunner jigheads for rigging freestyles. They all come in 1/2oz

Zman has 1/2 oz 8/0 in his DeiselEye line for stripers. I have used those heads but not in that configuration and they are stout. You may look for striper heads, I’m sure that exists.

While we are all looking, I have been trying to find 5/0 and 6/0 hook sizes in 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, and 3/8 oz. ball jigheads.  I would also appreciate any leads.  Thanks.

@Darth-Baiter, if you want an almost ball head, scrounger without the bill does the trick.

It’s not a ball head but I can pour this head for you. The one in the picture is 1/2 oz and the hook is a Mustad 32786 6/0.the book is a big strong book, not fine wire. Guys are using this hook for stripers in the Sacramento River. PM if interested. I use this head/hook with a 5” paddle tail swim bait for the spots here at Shasta. PM if interested. Thanks

Mustad and Scottsboro look to have everything I want, and more.  Thanks for the help!

You can also take a heavy jig with the hook you want and trim the lead with a pair of dikes.
